I have had 3G, Etonic and Dexters, Etonic held up the best for me but they don't make bowling shoes any more .  My 3G shoes and Dexter SST 6 toes on my drag foot wear down in under a year.  I have read about the SST Tank but have not seen or known anyone using them, if you have them how are they holding up?

The SST8's with the Max Powerstep T3 sole! I have had my SST8's for over 2 years and I have used this sole since day 1. It has been phenomenal and I would recommend it to anyone. 

as a fellow toe dragger, I use a simple trick.   Go buy some velcro,  Take the fuzzy side and stick it to the toe on the drag foot.  Might have to cut it down a bit.



I did this with my SST8, and after 1 full season there is 0 wear on the toe. You will have to replace the fuzzy part on occasion, but it is super cheap and effective.

I took a lesson with Jasnau in Reno and he fixed my toe drag. It was all from muscling the ball. And not being in a good finishing position. If you fix the problem you will not need to buy any more band aids.

The SST8 have a nice thick sole for doing this.  By far the best pair of shoes I have  ever owned.   If you notice on the one corner you can see some wear, that part was on the bottomright.   As it wears down if you have good enough velcro you can take it off and flip it.

Would like to hear more on this subject.  I been using 3G Tours, and have been and currently using the Ultras.  I'm on my second pair, but the toe cap wears out super fast.  Mine has a hole in the front, but I did just purchase and received the replacement toe cap, just didn't have the time (little bit scared too) to change it out yet.  Need to find some kind of cement to glue it down.  Seems simple enough, but i'm not the handiest guy around.  Would be nice to find a shoe that doesn't wear out the cap so fast, and is comfortable too.  Love the Tour Ultras, comfort wise.

I have used the velcro trick in the past, also tried other tapes (duct tape, electrical tape..) but they don't stick very well to the rubber cap. 

Anyone change the toe cap on the tour ultras?  was it really easy or takes a bit of work?  What kind of cement did you use and where can I purchase it from?

2 questions.

Let me preface my questions by stating I love my SST5s, I would love to find a pair of lefty wide widths.....can't.

I don't care about wear, I like the feel of the SST Power pivot trail foot dragging along smoothly instead of bump bump bump like the SST8 rubberized trail foot bumper.

1.  For Matt with the Velcro, is your goal a smooth high Friction drag with the Velcro addition to your toe?  Or is the goal just to reduce wear?
2.  For the Power Step poster, the same question?  Do you get smooth strong friction for the toe drag surface or just a reduction in wear?
