Bowling Mistakes
« on: November 21, 2011, 09:07:31 AM »
Lets list some of the common mistakes most bowler make....

I was bowling @ USA bowl in Dallas and was killing the packet and bowled 232.  Next game I started hanging 10 pin and made every adjustment and got lost..  My score dropped to 165 because of  my stupid adjustments....  Glad I had some strong team member which game me hell afterwards but I deserved...

Switching balls instead of moving. Face it, when part of the lane is "torched" even the weakest ball will hook.
Too many guys want to stay on their old line for fear that they will lose the pocket. HOGWASH!

one of the biggest mistakes i see is a typical 180 bowler who buys the biggest hooking ball on the market and throws the ball 12 MPH down and in with stacked layout and by the time the 1st game is over they are missing the head pin completely to the opposite side of pocket..yet they blame the bowling center and bitch about how there is no oil, yet they jus dont understand the dynamics of bowling and how it works.

Talking trash and not really knowing what your talking about.  I can't stand the guys on league night that talk out their a$$ and avg. 170.  They say during practice, "These lanes are drenched" or "They're way to dry tonight" when they truly have no clue what they are talking about.  The biggest mistake in bowling is thinking you know something you don't.  It is an easy mistake to correct though.  Watch, practice, ask questions, bowl with better bowlers, and experiment.  Sorry that I'm venting, but bowled with a kid this weekend that was one of these guys.  He kept shaking his head, hitting the machine, and general craziness.  I'm sorry to say that I was like that at one time.  I'm really glad I've calmed down.

Let's all bowl on the US open pattern and find out how "good" we are......

Bowling with two fingers,

thinking hook equates to scoring,

biggest hooking ball always hook the most,

only knowing how to play one line,

only knowing one release,

only knowing one hand position,

thinking their 220 average is the same as a Pro's 220 average,

thinking that a ringing ten pin is a good shot,

thinking the nine pin leave is a screw job,

Anything 4PinHatesMe says about bowling is the biggest mistake!!

Nothing wrong with bowling with 2 fingers Mr.

Everybody bowls different and you have to learn your craft..

not practicing enough -- i believe we all fall into this category - i know i need to practice more. one problem with practice is not having the same lane condition that i want to practice on.

My biggest pet peeves right now are:

1. bowlers not reading lanes well, or correctly, thus playing them wrong

2. not paying attention to their surroundings(i.e.: not paying attention to OTHER bowlers bowling on the same pair)3. thinking that the biggest hooking ball, and the ball with the most revs, gives the most strikes!!

I bowl with a teammate who believes no. 3 with all his heart! I have been trying to get him to realize that this is a falsehood, but he tends to gravitate towards watching guys with 400+ rev rates and who hook the whole lane, and think that, throwing a ball like they do will guarantee him instant success. Never mind that I am currently carrying a 200+ average on HIS team.....throwing down and in, or up the boards, with a simple delivery, rev rate at 250, at about 14mph on most nights......and kicking those same guys butts!!!

Duct tape is like 'The Force'. It has a light side and a dark side, but it still holds the universe together.

Some days you're the bug; some days you're the windshield.
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

Move as far forward on the lane as you can without fouling  - if you can't go any further, try bowling just a bit quicker.
You can also put a less aggressive action on your release.
Or as someone has already  pointed out, use a less aggressive ball.

People who simply won't move their feet (yet for some reason they say they DID move when I clearly see with my own eyes they've started on the same spot every single shot).   Don't get it......

Can anyone explain this?  I'm sure many see this.

or a bowler finally moves his feet but pulls the ball 10 boards then turns and throws his arms up b/c the move didn't work.
