Getting Back into Bowling!
« on: June 24, 2012, 12:36:10 PM »
Hey Gang!

It's been a while since I've been here, but I like the face-lift this site got!  It looks nice!  The ads though?  They make me  :(

Anywho - I broke my finger like 3 months ago now.  My doc said to lay off for a while until I'm better.  Just this week, I'm finally able to move my fingers and stuff without pain at all.  It's VERY exciting.  I broke my bowling hands middle finger, but just the tip.  I broke the bone on the nail side, and it was gross for a while - very purple and HUGE.  But the swelling is down, and now the joint is finally un-swelling.

So I'm going to finally be able to bowl again come the Fall Season!  I'm so amped, it's been ages since I bowled and I feel lost without it (no seriously, I do).

So that said, I'm going to take my favorite ball I had and get it re-fit b/c I'm going to need to account for a busted finger.  That said, has anybody had a similar situation happen?  If you did, I'd love to know how your span changed, or didn't change.  I just want to see if I can get any insight into what I'll be doing come mid-July when I start practicing and prepping for the upcoming season.

Thank you! It's greatly appreciate ;D

Oh Lord I can't wait to bowl again.

You need to find a GOOD fitter.  I imagine that joint is VERY stiff.  You'll need more reverse pitch and/or a shorter span to accommodate the stiffness.  If your fitter has an adjustable fitting ball, that will help you get the feel.  Be sure your new fit doesn't cause more damage to that joint.  --  JohnP

I have broken both my middle fingers on both hands playing hardball (baseball) in high school and have a profound knot on the 1st joint from the tip of my fingers. A good fitter (driller) will take care of any adjustment you might need. Good luck, and it goes without saying, good bowling to you too. Enjoy yourself...!

A good driller will definitely be able to help you with that.  What will probably happen is that they may shorten and/or change the pitch to accomodate that.  That has been done plenty of times with many different people (WRWJ is an example since he had nasty arthritis in his ring finger) and it helps take most or all of the pressure off.  In the meantime, welcome back and here's to good bowling.
