High Game for League Bowled Unopposed
« on: June 07, 2010, 06:38:00 AM »
I searched through the USBC rulebook and couldn't find the answer, but I'm sure someone on here knows.  For leagues that offer prize money for high game, does it matter if it was bowled unopposed ?  There is no league rule specifying if its acceptable or not.

Thanks.

By unopposed are you referring to bowling against a vacant team or pre/post bowling out of league?

I would check with the lg. officers. If there is no rule, than propose that the team capt's vote on it at the next lg. meeting. Hard to punish a guy after the fact.

I've bowled some of my highest games ever when the opposing team failed to show up on league night.  Fewer people monkeying around in the oil and all that.  Gotta thank the lane man too, of course.

I don't know if it has changed but the ABC had a rule disallowing a honor score if bowled unopposed. This issue should be brought up in your next league meeting.

As others have said, if the league doesn't have a rule preventing such scores counting for awards the scores would count.

The USBC rule that was implemented when a certain youth bowler fraudulently claimed he bowled multiple 900-series deals only with unopposed pre- and post-bowling.  If you bowl during your regularly scheduled league time, it does not matter whether you have an opponent bowling with you or not.  If there are an odd number of teams and you're bowling the vacancy team that night, and you bowl at your usual league time, those scores count for every conceivable award or payout.

If you are bowling an actual team (not a ghost team or vacancy team) and you pre- or post-bowl with them, those scores count for every possible award category you could think of.

If you pre- or post-bowl by yourself or with only your team present then your scores are not eligible for the 300 game, 11-in-a-row, 800- or 900-series, no national high game or series awards.  If you don't have a league rule about being ineligible for local awards or league awards, then they are eligible.

If there is another team present, no matter when you bowl, they're eligible.
