Take a standard garden hose and cut the metal ends off, then cut 4 foot lengths out of the rest and give one to each member and wait by his car...  :D

Seriously though, just your team or the entire league?

Given if it's a sanctioned league and you followed the rules. There's the Bonding the USBC provides the league has. So you may be able to get all or part of the money back, check in the USBC rulebook in the Bonding Chapter.

I'd also start auditing the league books now and see if any other money "got lost".

Make sure to go to the bank and get the records from them on deposits and withdrawals for the league. Don't just go by the Sec. account book.

Ditto to Aloarjr!!! Make sure he had the money in the bank and he also needed two signatures to withdraw money. The sec. and pres was suppose to be on the account! Did he lose the money or spend the money?

The president of the league is responsible to check the deposits and bank statements. Most leagues have a vice president and he or she is also held accountable when it comes to punishment due to theft. This  is their duty to make sure the money is correct in the bank account. A president should not take his duty lightly when it comes to making sure the money is correct. All officers could be banned from bowling in leagues forever, even if the Secretary takes the money.
The USBC office should be notified if theft occurs and they have the right to check the books and file the proper charges. My experience with theft was under the old
ABC format, therefore you need to check with the local USBC to be sure as far as rules and how they approach this matter today.

Sanctioned league or not sanctioned league.  If not, this is the main reason why all leagues should be sanctioned irregardless of how "good a job" the USBC is doing.
Long Gone also posts the honest truth which is why i respect him. He posts these things knowing some may not like it.

If it's sanctioned, as soon i heard money is missing, i would contact the local association to advise them what your league has been told.  USBC needs to know ASAP so they can do whatever they need to do as quickly as they can.  I don't believe the league officers or the bowling center should be given any time for them to look into it.  The process needs to start immediately.

I would really want to know the definition of "lost".

Did he get it from the bank and put the envelope down some where,

did someone stick a gun in his ribs,

or did his horse finish last.

Hopefully he was robbed, and hopefully the president was doing his job checking bank statements.  If not on both, the USBC bond will not cover it, let alone the full amount or half.  Not to mention, both will get the ban from league play for up to 5yrs or more.

A league I use to bowl in, and the wife use to be secretary, had this happen last fall.  The president never got bank statements, and the secretary never made cash deposits, just checks.  When the checks cleared, he withdrew that money.  The president is on the hook for a 5yr ban, depending on usbc ruling.
