Rhino Page
« on: November 13, 2008, 04:26:36 AM »
I work at Taylor Lanes and I overheard one of the head people of the PBA and Patrick Allen and the were talking about how last year the left side was so easy at times that you didn't need to have to have "skill" to bowl well. They also said at times the lane machine was messed up and the lefties were shut out. They proceeded to say that this earthe have the machines working great and they have the left side worked out where this year only thwe lefties with real skill are succeeding.

I kinda thought about who had such success last year and isnt doing much this year and obviously Rhino camne to mind. Watching him in practice last night, most of the people in the TQR had a better look. It made me wonder if Rhino is who he was referring to mostly. I kinda always thought he had a lot of room last year every time on TV. While I know he would whoop my butt in bowling I reall am beginning to wonder if he is really at the caliber of the others on tour. My gut says no.

In my opinion Rhino couldn't be a ball boy for Bohn,Couch an every other leftie that can play right of thier 15 board, and if he were a rightie it would be worse

I don't know about Rhino, but you're always at the mercy of the lane man.  Remember a few years ago when Scroggins made the show regularly then struggled to hit the pocket once on TV?  Obviously his skill didn't change in a day, so either match play was easier and TV was "normal", or match play was normal and they screwed him on TV.  I can only hope whatever "change" is made from block to block or match play to TV isn't intentional.  Actually, I'm not sure what's worse incompetance or vindictiveness.

I have said all along, even while all the Rhino fanboys were calling him the next Earl Anthony, that Rhino had a career year last year and was going to regress in a major way this year. There was at least one thread where people were picking their POY for the upcoming season, and I swear half the people said Rhino, which instantly made me wonder if people actually follow the PBA and understand the game to any extent or just get jaded by what they see on TV every week.

So two things. First of all, although the year is young, I'd like to publicly pat myself on the back for being right. And second, while I realize Rhino could mop me up on any day of the week, he is most definitively NOT the next Earl Anthony.

now this i agree with he is no way next to being earl anthony.  maybe in another 15 years or more, and even then its hard to compare anyone to earl.  he had a great year last year and bowled alot more than the exempt guys but how many pros have had great years followed by off years? the answer is plenty of them.

the year is still young, he may come back he may not.

Obviously I can't prove that I heard them say this as for some stupid reason I forgot my tape recorder when I left for work yesterday. Stupid me. They never even said the name Rhino either I, that was just a name I thought they MIGHT have been talking about. But anyway I never said that I think Rhino sucks. There are a lot of bowlers that are really good and have a lot of achievements but just can't hang on a regular basis with the TOP professionals. Look at Tim Mack, great bowler just not at that caliber of a bowler. Just seeing how Rhino acts too I am not so sure he takes it seriously. I might be off base here but he doesn't seem to be out there working on his game enough and trying to break out of this slump he seems to be in.

And Rhino's doing pretty well after the first 7 games today in the Round of 64.  Can't a guy have a slump for a few weeks without being accused of being untalented?  I think he had an exceptional year last year that may not be indicative of just how good he really will be over the long haul, but you've got to be pretty good to have that kind of a year, not to mention his previous Team USA success, etc.

Everybody has a slump, and I believe Rhino prefers the international game.  Parker didn't do anything for YEARS after the PBA went from house shots to a tougher variety, does anybody remember that?  So now that Rhino has a bad couple weeks, he's no good?  For those that have only seen him the 5 times on tv . . and have never seen him hook the ball . . trust me when I say he's just getting the bugs worked out.  He doesn't have near the tour experience of the other guys, so it's dumb to expect him to be up there with them every week, but he won them a medal over the summer I believe . .  And which lefties are we talking about that played right of 15 last year?  Don't believe I ever saw that.
