SST5 Vs. SST6
« on: February 16, 2005, 04:36:19 AM »
Ok heres the deal, I ordered a pair of SST6's from buddiesproshop.com, and I just recieved them today........my wife calls me up, and says, you only got 2 soles & 2 heels total, I said, they sent me the 5's, and my wife confirmed that thought when she read the packaging slip.  So I called up BPS, and said you sent me the wrong shoes, they said, we appologise for that, but unfortunately, we are out of stock on the 6's, and they don't expect to get any in for atleast 4-6 weeks.....

I initially was purchasing the 6's exclusively for the wider footprint, being that I am a taller person, I thought that may be good for my game, but I am reading the specs on the 5's, and it also says that it has a wider footprint as well.

So my question is this, I want to know how people feel about the 5's & 6's.......does the 5 have a wider footprint like the 6's, or a wider print, just not as wide as the 6's.  And just general thoughts about the 5's & 6's, that could help me decide to wait the 4-6 weeks, or just keep the 5's.  Cause I kinda like the way the 5's look better then the 6's, but it all comes down to comfort in the end.

Thanks!!!!!!11

I purchased the SST 5 and I am very happy with the purchace. The shoes are very comfortable. I wear a size 10.5 and I am 6' tall. I do have a somewhat wider foot that most and I have no problems with this pair of shoes. Also for myself the soles and heels that came with the SST 5 were enough for me.

The 5 is a wide footprint , but the 6's are really much wider. I like my 5's anyway. Plus I couldnt get the 5's in white.

Ive got both.
The 5's were very good, but I tore the back of the heel trying to get them off fast, my fault. They are more stable compared to most shoes.
The 6's  are fantastic. They are the LX wide version and they are sssooo stable at the line. I dont think you can get better for stability.

I recently had to give my 6's up. Had a problem with the velcro on the slide foot not keeping the sole on and also folding back. I ended up getting the SST 5 Comforts. I would suggest to look into those. They are SO COMFORTABLE. Best shoes I have had yet for comfort.

Thanks for the feedback peeps!!  I received a phone call last night from a BPS representative, to ask me what I wanted to do, and to explain the subtle differences between the 5's & 6's.  I totally didn't expect this call from them, and was very pleased.  I have decided to stick with the 5's after trying them on last night, and simply walking around with them and realizing how comfortable they really are.  And the wider footprint compared to what I have now, also helps me in making this decision.

So Kudos to BPS, and I look forward to future purchases from them!!

One last question.  Since I opted to go with the 5's, can you purchase other soles & heels?  The 6's come with 4 each, the 5's only have 2 each?

If so, where can you get them.....BPS?

You can purchase extra soles and heels at all the on-line bowling sites. Just follow the links on Ballreviews.com or go to others like bowlersparadise.com, bowlingball.com  bowlingland.com   etc.

I have had both. The 6's are wider that's not even a question. However the 6's are harder than the 5's, they have less padding for the bottom of your foot. Your really can't go wrong with either it's totally a person preference. I personally think that the 5's are more comfortable but the 6's are better put together as I had to re-glue my 5's several times before replacing them. But either way I think both of them are better than their nearest competitor.

I personally like the 5's better i had three pairs of them, I now have the 6's and everyone says the width helps but it seems abnormal to me like a big clown shoe or something. Stone/Ivory  sst5's my favorite ever

I have both , both are very comfortable . I find the 6's to be a bit warm at times , Kangaroo leather doesn't seem to breathe well . Guess that's why Dexter opted for sweat wicking insoles in the 6's. The 5's have little vent holes that you wouldn't think did anything but my feet didn't ever sweat in my 5's ,so they must work . My 5's also had individual shoe bags where the 6's has one big one that I don't like , but that's just my opinion.

I have 2 pairs of the 6 and 1 of the 5.  I prefer the 6 as I have a size 14-15 that is wide.  The 5, though they fit fine, don't offer me as much comfort as the 6 since those are so much wider.

The thing I didn't see in your post was anything related to a partial refund as there should be a price difference between the two!!

Yeah, I got the difference between the 2 refunded.  And it is a bummer that dexter does not supply individual bags for the shoes, like they did in the past.  But, I still have the bags from my SST4's, so I'm just using those.

I find the 5's pretty darn comfortable.  I was wearing the 4's and had been for about 5 or 6 years now, and they just felt incredibly flat now compared to the 5's.  This talk about the 5's falling apart and people having to glue them back together is worrying me however?  Is this a common problem with the 5's that the 6's just don't have??  Where are they tearing at?

Koabzilla, it was own fault that mine tore. It was just the padding around the edge of the shoe where your foot slides in and out and your heel rubs on them.
I have a thing about not wearing my slide shoe if i have to go off the lane for anything at all, even reporting a breakdown.
We had a few problems one night and I was getting a bit mad and I never untied my shoe to take it off, thats what caused my problem.
They are very strong shoes overall though.
I will tell you I definatly like my SST6 LX better though.
