A possible solution for the PBA
« on: November 24, 2010, 04:00:28 AM »
Just an idea. I'm not sure this is original even.

Would the PBA benefit joining with the USBC membership on a Tour that would include both a male version and a female version? Say have a $5.00 fee added to the dues and give the bowling public ownership under USBC guidance? Having the money go toward prize funds. This might be simplistic but it would generate money needed for the PBA to grow? You could have both the tours in the same city at the same time on certain dates and have the winner of their respective events bowl against each other. Many possiblities.

People already complain about the $20 yearly fee they pay now.  Good luck with that.

I agree that the USBC would have to sell to the average league bowler.

While I agree the concept is good, most league bowlers couldn't care less if their league is sanctioned, and any increase would likely just accelerate membership losses.

How many USBC bowlers currently? Would a two dollar increase generate enough millions  or a three dollar?

I would GLADLY pay double my sanction fee to help support the PBA. Without a visible professional tour who do we hacks have to aspire to?

I would be willing, but I don't think USBC should be the ones to run the PBA.

How about a joint effort between the PBA and the USBC? The PBA would still call the shots but with USBC input.

I understand the thought. To take it one step furter: if we dues paying members help fund the PBA would we have some kind of vote on how it's ran? or would we be throwing money down the blackhole with no say?

The USBC could sell it as an investment in the future of bowling. This might also free money from the corporations going to the purse and let them give to charities in the communities they bowl in.

This has been talked about for years...but, as I understand it, the PBA will not let go of any control whatsoever...look at the ball companies for instance.

i don't see why they just go back to open entries for each tour stop.  they could probably add at least 100 bowlers a tournament by doing this.  if they're going to keep the WSOB why not have state wide tournaments to get into it like poker does.

expand the regional program a little.  let's say you live in Maine, to go bowl a weekend tournament your looking at some big travel time to get to one of the eastern stops.

sponsor dollars comparable to golf would be huge, unrealistic but huge.
