900 Global After Dark Hybrid video and written review
« on: September 27, 2019, 09:10:33 AM »

Here we are with another review, the 900 Global After Dark Hybrid.

We tried this ball on our house shot pattern, where sometimes there is a lot of friction even on fresh and there is also a lot of over/under and this After Dark Hybrid worked quite well.

I was able to play straighter and the ball gave me a great look during the session.

This ball is definitely cleaner through the front part of the lane and it has a smooth and continuous downlane motion, not as angular like the After Dark Pearl.

I found myself really comfortable throwing the After Dark Hybrid. The ball never wanted to hook too early and it has a medium to slow response to friction, which helps me to keep the pocket in front of me and play tighter angles.

The After Dark Hybrid is very forgiving for a low entry level bowling ball. Misses outside 5 or 6 and the ball had plenty of recovery without being too much. Misses inside my mark and the After Dark Hybrid pushed further down the lane, creating a bigger margin of error compared to stronger balls in the lineup.

The After Dark Hybrid definitely needs friction to work at its best. When I tried to open up the lane and play inside second or third arrow, the After Dark Hybrid wasn't enough ball to play steeper angles. Balls like the Money Badger, Ordnance Pearl or the Honey Badger would be a better fit to play the inside part of the lane.

This ball allows me to play my favorite part of the lane. If there is enough friction, the After Dark Hybrid will be a good option to start with. I also see this ball as a great step down from any ball in the Badger series, the Ordnance Pearl or the Volt. The After Dark Hybrid will provide easy length and a smooth motion that will help to control the breakpoint.

Overall, I am impressed with the After Dark Hybrid. This ball can be used after stronger balls start producing too much friction, on broken down patterns and it can also be used on fresh playing straighter angles and when there is enough friction.

Rev dominant bowlers will love the control the After Dark Hybrid offers. Speed dominant bowlers like me will have in the After Dark Hybrid a useful piece to play in the friction without worrying about the ball hooking too early or too much. For the beginner bowler, the After Dark Hybrid will be a great ball to start getting used to reactive bowling balls.

If you are looking for a ball to use on light oil conditions, this ball will be a great addition to your arsenal.

Thanks! Were you able to compare it to the AD pearl? I love the AD pearl but sometimes it’s just a bit too clean on the fresh and just a bit too much on the dry.

I felt the same with the AD Pearl. The AD Hybrid seems to be more versatile than the Pearl. The ball still needs friction to work at its best, but I was able to start with it playing tighter angles and the ball worked great. I used it yesterday in League for my last game since the Miney Badger was too strong downlane and the AD provided with more control at the breakpoint. It is definitely less jumpy than the Pearl.

I hope this helps!

Quick update. I decided to add some surface to my AD Hybrid and it worked great! I practiced yesterday and I shot 976 in four games with it. It adds some more traction while keeping the same smooth and controllable motion.

Don't hesitate to try different surfaces on your equipment!

Thanks. I may have to get one. What surface did you bring it to?
