Question About Layouts.
« on: April 10, 2020, 06:30:06 AM »
I Have been wanting to ask the question of whether layouts really matter!? i know they are VERY Important to each individual bowler, but does speed and rev rate matter in the equation? i used to roll my ball at 13-14mph and have a rev rate of 200. now i throw at 17.5 with a rev rate of 3-350. i use a pin up 5" layout on all my balls which is considered a strong layout. should i change bowling ball layouts due to my change in speed and revolutions? or does it even matter aside from pin up or down?

I do not think you have anything to worry about simply because you are pretty matched up when it comes to your speed and revs.  If you dominately bowl leagues and not many tournaments, then I would worry more about surface adjustments to fine tune the ball reaction than adjusting your layouts.  Layouts do matter to an extent.  The difference between going from a 5 inch pin to a 4 inch pin to me is so minor that more can be achieved with a surface change and much cheaper on your pockets.  NOW......if you were talking about going from a 5 inch pin to a 1-2 inch pin, you would definitely see a bigger difference and would be worth it if that was a reaction you are looking for.  But from my experience; do surface adjustments first before doing anything too drastic.
