Not sure, but for what it's worth my BP is cracking around the ring finger. Not very noticeably, but it's there.
-
No problems with my BP or any of my 900's.
-
Almost every company has issues with cracking, my pro shop guy had a pile of cracked and dead Big One's from Ebonite and lets not forget the EOX cover from Storm

you have to remember, with "any company" and on "any ball" the closer you drill the finger holes near the pin, you have a better chance of having problems with cracking.. for the best results with this is to make sure your driller/s has sharp drill bits and places the pin at least one inch from any hole being drilled.. slashrr69

yeah i understand about the distance between drillings for the fingers, and shops getting the balls to hot, and dull bits. I was just asking if you thought there was some sort of defect or not due to the amount of them i see that are cracked or cracking.
thanks for the input

My BP is just fine (have been using it since the ball first came out).

I have owned over 15 900Global and AMF balls and I have only had 1 crack and that was the Break Pearl. I think mine has something to do with the pitches we changed to went toward the pin and by doing that you are likely to crack the ball.

like Rev stated, dull bits, not enough bevel on insert hole main culprit, of all the AMF/900G 's I have drilled, not a single cracked bridge that I'm aware of.

Can't the glue used on grips have an effect as well or is that just a myth?
-
I thought this thread was about things going wrong as I'm tryin to move and sell my house.

Yes, that's another potential source of cracking, AFAIHL.
If you use Super Glue all around the insert to glue it in, the glue can seep into the surrounding coverstock and make that area more brittle. Emphasis on "can". It's why I use 2 small dabs of glue and usually put them 1/2" - 3/4" down the side of the insert to hold it in place.

The most used bit in pro shops is 31/32". That's what is used on almost all finger insert holes, and a very common thumb hole size. This will be the bit that goes DULL the quickest. A dull bit will temper the material around the holes to almost brittle if not careful.
The bridge gets tempered from both sides...couple that with the possibility of too much super glue causing a heating effect, and the weakest part of your $200 baby is right between the fingers...jime Pearls are worse than solids.

And that is why we have 14 #31/32 drill bits. And they get resharpened two to 3 times a year. Same goes for #1 1/8 bit, #1 3/8 bit, #1 1/4 bit, #7/8 bit.
All of these bits are used for inserts.
Also another reason for cracking around or between the fingers is the pitch some pro shops use. Cheater pitches. They pitch the MF 3/8 to the right and the RF 1/4 to the left on every ball. This helps flush up the inserts when being installed. But it also weakens the bridge!!!!

To answer your question, 999 times out of a 1000 it's not the cover of any ball, but the way they have the finger holes drilled, and the inserts installed. A good pro shop has very little problem with cracking...jim

thanks for the input, and after talking w/ my local guy, and reading your post i gotta think its driller error, and not a Global problem of epidemic proportions
picked up my 1st G900 product, and im impressed w/ it, and look forward to getting some more, and learning about the line
