No online sales.

That's been the policy from day one.

This is how the policy changes?  No announcement.  No fanfare.  Just eBay listings to break the ice?

Just wait. The internet NAZI'S always show up.

I think I remember newguy saying that it was a policy intended to police large distributors from flooding the market, not keep small sellers from selling on e-bay.

( yes, I know this is a shop and not just an individual )

Well  this could be an individual who put this on ebay. I don't think Global can stop an individual from selling on ebay. And did you see the freight this bandit wants to charge. $27.00.  Hopefully no bids will get over $100.00 and this bandit will lose money on the deal.

$117 shipped.  I don't think we'll be seeing many more posted for auction with no reserve.

Guys it's the same deal with Lane 1's MAP pricing.....

Nowhere in that auction was there an ADVERTISED price. If Warren from HE BOwling wants to take a chance that he's going to lose his arse on an auction (and he did BTW) then it's his business to do so.

However a Buy It Now IS an advertised price and must meet their criteria. The same goes for a Reserve auction.

Face it...I own a brick and mortar pro shop as well as a small online shop. The manufacturers are going to sell to whomever they can to get their sales volume up. Storm sells pallet quantities of their product to some online sellers at far less than I can buy 1 or 2 balls for. Lane 1 does it, Ebonite does it and so does everybody else.

It's not the buy 4 get 1 free trade show deals that are killing then online shops...it's the manufacturers selling to the internet sellers for the same (or less) than they sell the product to the big distributors.

The only way things will level off is for everybody to quit whining about it, suck it up and pay the bill.

Bowlers.....if you want to buy cheap online then deal with the fact that the pro shop is going to charge you more to drill it and will not take care of teh warranty issues for you.

Pro Shops....suck it up, let the customers buy online, get the wrong specs, do the best you can, charge them heavy and let them learn their lesson.

Distributors....join together and stop it or quit telling teh shops that your prices are higher because you don't sell to online resellers.

In short here's the deal.....

Ball companies need to make money to stay in business and they will sell to whomever will allow them to maximize their profits.

Distributors will do what they need to do in order to stay in business and pay the light bill....join up with an internet reseller to help with volume or over-charge their brick and mortar custoemrs for teh product they need to buy.

Pro Shops....try to match internet pricing and make less per ball in hopes of selling more balls or leave your prices where they are and sell fewer balls but make more per ball.

It's then only way everybody can come out happy.

Good post Doug.

When wal mart came to town and started selling tires for less than us (often below our cost), we did not cry the blues. We did what we had to do in order to compete. Some things we can compete on, and others we cannot. We lost a few customers to the "price only" sale, but we gained customers who appreciate knowledge and superior service.

I like your "kwicherbichinandealwithit" approach!

Jon,

It's the way we HAVE to deal with it....especially those of us in the smalltown/ limited lineage centers....

You gotta do what you gotta do to survive....cutting your own throat is NOT an option....

Last time I looked the 900 Globals balls were not being dumped and under cut on the "internet sites". They were not being sold to the consumer for less than a shop could pay for them.
If a few individuals think its profitable to attempt to beat the system, rest assured they won't have the 900 Global portion long. E-bay is E-bay not every deal is a deal and many end up being not benifical for either party.
Pro shops offer the best opportunity for the consumer to get exactly what he needs.

NEWGUY .. I'm just a bowler without the experience that you have .. but ..in my mind I'm confused. What's in this policy of selling only through B&M shops for you? To me (as a bowler) it makes no sense. Your product is being used by LESS consumers .. you have to be making less profit .. if you are attempting to drive bowlers to the B&M shops  .. it doesn't appear to be working .. where is this all going? What are you attempting to accomplish and when do you stop and reassess your direction?

Please disregard my questions if they are NONE OF MY BUSINESS!
