Anyone polish a Train?
« on: January 21, 2012, 01:46:12 PM »
I am thinking I am gonna drill a 2nd Train since I like it a lot. I am thinking using a similar layout and polishing it. I am wondering if anyone used the ball OOB and then polished it and how much difference it made in length and overall boards covered. I am thinking a polished one with the same layout would be a perfect step down when the heads start to go. I am just worried that it could be one of those balls that covers a lot of boards when polished in the back so much that it would defeat the purpose of what I'm planning. So I can't decide if I should go similar layout or go with a weaker layout.

I'm really liking it. Front 9 2nd game with it last night hung up a little in the thumb and left a 2 pin (279). It's just too much to get  me through the 3rd game... I'm definitely drilling another one this week just gotta decide on how strong to drill it. Was thinking just go with a 5" pin to PAP instead of 4.5 and polish it but I don't want it to get too sideways downlane.

tdub, I'm fixing to drill me a 2nd one with the same layout, and adding polish.  Loving the Train right now.  First four sets so far are...677, 691, 658 and 694.  Ball is very predictable, but strong throughout.  A lot of moving left with this piece.  If I get mine punched up before you, I'll let you know how it rolls.

Ok, thanks Gunny. I'll probably drill mine Monday. I think I am gonna go with Rough Buff instead of polish to start I think it will keep it a touch smoother downlane. If that's too much I'll go to polish....Won't really know how it does when the heads start to go til Friday though probably. My Tuesday league will give me an idea but the transition doesn't usually happen til 3rd game and it isn't as drastic as Friday unless we are bowling a team with a lot of hand.

tbub36tit,

Virtually every ball I've ever tried this with (polishing the sanded version) will save its energy for the backend and anything the sanded version uses to start hooking in the midlane, will transfer that energy to hook at the backend.  Some become uncontrollably flippy. A few retain their breakpoint shape.

If you want a similar hook shape, you really do have to change at least 2 of  the 3 drilling factors, pin distance, Val and Drill angle. I'd suggest at least a higher VAL angle to reduce the snap and either a shorter pin distance to reduce the flare or a smaller Drill angle to decrease the length.

Well its symmetrical so drilling angle is meaningless. But are you thinking like a 60*x2.5"x50* polished then???

Sorry, I forgot it was symmetric. ALl of 900Global's premium balls had been asymmtric.

Since it is symmetric, a longer pin-PAP woudl result in less flare and go longer, vs an asymmetric's shorter pin and larger Drill angle.

I don't know how your original was drilled.but I'm not a driller. You should really consult with your driller about the adjust to make to reduce extreme flippiness in a polished version of this ball. It's much easier and probably more accurate for him to do it since he is or can watch you bowl.

I just drilled mine up.

Threw some Storm step 1 polish on it first.

Ball seemed to fuzzy out of the box.

Granted I only have 6 shots on the ball.

All I can say is WOW.

This ball comes off the pattern and makes its move to the pocket.

Definitely will be interesting to see it on some decent oil.

Mine is polished, too much dull for me outta the box, I went over the OOB with some

liquid rubbing compound (my favorite polish), got it nice and shiny, great ball.  jime

Drilled the 2nd one today. Went with a 5.5" pin (4.5" on the first Train) and hit it rough buff before I drilled it.I threw one game with it afterI drilled it on the burn from league and a little bit of open bowling. Wasn't scorched but was fairly dry. Only one game so I don't know a lot about it but I think this is gonna be what I was looking for. Once the first one starts hooking early I think I will be able to just  switch to this one and stay in the same spot. It was 4 and 2 less overall. I found it to be a little cleaner and it seemed to have a similar but slightly stronger backend reaction. I was standing on 32 hitting 20 at the arrows to about 6 at the break point with the 2nd Train....I will post pictures of them tomorrow and will report back when I get some more time in league with the 2nd one....

Here are pictures of my Trains. The one on the left is the polished one. The OOB one on the right has about 12 games on it and as you can see has a little lane shine.

Man, I cannot WAIT to get my train punched up! You guys are killing me! Between my train, hook, and black eagle I have on the way, I'm going to need more bags, and maybe new shocks for my car!

Can anyone compare the ball motion to anything else in the global.or amf lines?

The closest ball for me is probably the Break s75 with a little more continuation downlane....I have a Break s75 with like 15 games on it I was throwing before I got the Train and the Break s75 hasn't came out the bag since....
