Ball purchase descision
« on: August 11, 2011, 05:30:38 AM »
Hey everyone,

Been a long time but I need to buy a new ball. Getting a $50 pro shop gift certificate from the league I am bowling with my daughter and need to use it. My current equipment is in my profile. I may retire my Cherry Pearl and the Solid Cobalt Bomb. Maybe even the Buzzbomb depending on what I get.

I am looking at the following balls:

900 Global: Bank Roll, and The Nuts

Lane #1: Boom'R-ang, Black Fire, Buzzbomb Carnage, or Time Bomb if the proshop can still get one.

I need something that is for mediums and is more angular than my Buzzbomb'R or something for when the lanes are on the oily side. I have tried my Buzzbomb at 500 grit but it is still not enough if they are oily. I actually like it better when it is at about 1000grit+light Polish. It kind of fits the angular medium spot.

What do you guys suggest? I'll post this over in the Lane #1 section also.

Thanks,

Mike

If you are looking for angular on mediums, I would go with the Nuts. S70 is going to get it cleaner thru the fronts, and the Bank series is more rolly. Closest thing I have in my bag is my Bank and my Break S75. Break is much cleaner thru the lane, and I can keep moving in with it. My Bank is almost too strong for the house shots around my parts.

I would go with a Nuts with a long pin to pap.

Sounds like you are looking at two different conditions in your description. The Nuts will give you the angular look if that is what you need. 900 will tell you it is the most angular combination they have made to date. If look for a great ball for wetter don't overlook the Eagle. Same cover, different core and very versatile. My Bank Roll is still in the box so can't give a good comparison on that one yet.

Roll with 900 Global.

id suggest the bank roll, since its usable on different conditions, with it being a hybrid, the carnage is very strong and angular, twice of what the first buzzbomb was, the nuts is very good as well but it tends be squirly when the oil pushes

just my 2 cents

Well, I have narrowed it down to the Buzzbomb Carnage and the Columbia Ransom Demand as my two finalists. I wish I could get both but that's not going to happen anytime soon. Please weigh in on your final thoughts. I will need to make my decision by Thursday.
Thanks for the input so far.

The Ransom Demand may be a solid piece, but I think you're better off with The Nuts.  That cover is as tweakable as you'll find in the industry which tells me you'll be able to use that ball on about 90% of the shots you'll encounter.  Leave the Lane #1 Carnage to those who have too much money.  Buy a 900G product that does everything the Carnage will for less money out of pocket.
