Changing cover of Black Ops

Have been reading numerous post of this ball (Black Ops) and notice one thing about when some bowlers/staff, in reviewing, change the cover from the OOB 1500 polished to, say, 2000-3000. Said bowlers / staff never say that they re-polished their ball(s). Always, I took it up/down to whatever level of grit. Since Doom stated to me that this is the ball I might want to try (and I agree. 1st 900 Global 4 me), I'd very much like to know all I can about changing the cover if I decide to go that way sometime in the future. Thanks for any and all responses.  Jim

To put it simply, the Break core is a very torquey core. Creates a lot at the break point. S70 can be very angular. 1500 polished is very sensitive to the oil pattern. Add all of those things up and you have people breaking the surface. Lower grit allows the ball to read the pattern MUCH better.

Per our previous correspondence you mentioned that 60 x 4.5 x 40 would be a good drill for my medium oil pattern @ my present house. That's what I'm going with unless I hear different. Was a little worried after reading some posts on said ball that it had a tendency to burn up with such a high diff. Overall the ball had HIGH praise which I liked to read / hear. Thanks for your response Doom. Appreciate  the quick response.

I've never had a break/eagle/ops ever burn up on me. You may run into carry issues if your angles are getting too steep, but that's every ball ever made lol. If taking the ball to 2000 or 3000 is too much, then adjust the surface accordingly.

Listen to doom, the man knows his craft. Especially pertaining to global 900 balls. My black ops at 1000 abralon is a monster on heavy oil. Great ball for nationals, sport patterns for me with that surface. 2000-3000 could  be perfect for you on mediums.

Literally, I could cover 98% of conditions with the following.

Covert Ops
Black Ops
Shadow Ops
Honey Badger
Honey Badger Claw
Badger
Boost
After Dark (either of them)

That’s a hell of a lineup doom. I like it. I may have to try one of these after darks that so many of you are raving about. Always struggle when the lanes burn up with my slow speed.

If you have slow speed and don't have an After Dark in the bag, you're at a disadvantage. Seriously, S30 gets thru the fronts like plastic.

I think I’ve heard you say a 2 inch pin works well in an after dark for burn? Would putting a high pin, say 5 inch from pap make it to angular, uncontrollable for burn. I have a hyroad pearl with a high pin that in theory should work for hooking conditions, but I can rarely use cause it just responds to violent to friction, burn. It works well with chopped up heads, and some carry down. And usually only from deep inside angles. What would you suggest for a drilling in an after dark for my slow speed for hooking conditions?  also pearl or solid? Doom!

With the core shape of the After Darks, you will not make it uncontrollable. If you're looking to camp in the track area all day, 2 inch pin. If you want to move in a bit, 5 inch pin is good. Go pearl if you want the extreme end of the spectrum, and use it for what you drilled it for.

I have a pin-down AD Pearl that I use in a bone dry alley. It's so dry people use plastics for their first shot.

More hand for strikes, and straight for pin 10, and incredibly it does both well. I'm really not sure how this ball actually handles both jobs so well.

High RG low diff elliptical core shape with S30 is going to be a step up from plastic. That core likes staying in front of you. It's a much weaker X, which hates going left to right for me. If I keep it in front of me, it's a monster. That shape excels at tough conditions.

Incidentally I use the X2 (4000 polished) as my other ball at this alley. The AD Pearl has a stronger backend altho the X2 has more overall movement
