Freight Train/Hairline crack

Has anyone with a Freight Train had any problems with the ball cracking around the fingers? I noticed a very small hairline crack starting above and slightly around the finger holes barely noticeable but noticeable. The pin is less than 1" below my ring finger and I've been told that the pin is the weakest area of the ball and it is normal for small cracks like mine to occur when drilling too close to the pin. This makes sense to me yet I have other balls from 900 and other companies where I have the pin is less than an 1" from my finger holes and had no cracking problems. So I'm just wondering if it's just this particular ball and if the cracking around the fingers typically get worse or just end at that small hairline crack?

I would hate to think how I would feel if my Freight Train cracked. I have not had a ball crack around the fingers in a long time. I don't think there is a fool proof way to keep a ball from cracking. I will tell you that what I do seems to help. I do use finger inserts and my driller always bevels the finger holes and uses a small amount of glue, too much glue has been known to cause cracking.  After the ball is laid out and the finger holes are going to be close to the pin he will move the pattern and drill out the pin which I like. I now have several balls with the pin drilled out.
