a thing to think about when drilling a link

just wanted to let everyone know that our team has drilled some links with a 0 to 1 inch pin to pap range and keeping the mb on the left side of the thumb for righties, and let me tell you, this has been the money drilling for college patterns when the pattern is blown open and everything is just hooking way to much...

I feel personally that putting the MB on the "negative" side of the thumb is money for any ball.  That's just my personal preference though.

Remember the MB on this ball doesn't really matter...some "symmetric" marketed balls have more asymmetry than the Link.

very true, but the guys who have the ball drilled pin up or down around the fingers and teh mb to the right of the thumb, this ball is crazy strong on the backend when the lanes are dry...the guys with the 0 to 1 inch pin to pap layout the ball is just money! period!

yeah, I thought the same thing.. I have one and we drill it pretty weak(morich drilling)5.5"x60x45 with the pin up.. it suppose to be clean fronts with a mello arcing backend.... NOT, really strong, could be me and my hand, but when I change my hand position to a weaker release it goes totally straight and thats not good either... so the sooner the better on the pictures would be great..lol.. actual layouts for each piucture would help too..  ytring a surface change on it thi thursday night , going to sub and practice at the same time...lol....  thankss slashrr69

This is mine, and I think Ryan is correct.  The ball is too aggressive on the backend.  I was looking for something tame, and what I created was a good medium oil ball.  I'm have a new Razyr coming this week, which I think will fit in better than the Link.

My Link is laid out with the pin over the ring stacked over the CG and I must say this is a much better light oil condition piece for me than the Neptune is.

My Link is smooth and even down the lane with a predictable move to the pocket.  I can easily vary the reaction shape to improve backend pop with release variations too.  

For me the Neptune was too skid snappy and over under.  I can at least control the Link.  I was afraid it would be too strong but it is not.

jbruno, we have a couple of kids with that drilling and i just dont like it, it is a great piece for medium light, but when we really need to stay near the gutter on shorter patterns and they are pretty fried the link wit a close pin to pap drilling is just perfect. the cover is so weak and making it roll the entire lane with nothing fancy on the back is perfect...

You have to watch doing this, because of what could happen to your flare pattern due to strong MB balls.

What could happen...isnt the Link a weaker MB ball?  I am seriously considering this setup, while I dont have a ton of hand...my Hornet with pin over bridge and CG kicked 2.5" out has some pretty nasty back end on the dry, blown open pattern.

Not a lot could happen with a Link. Yet with something stronger to start, you could have problems with the way the ball flares. The link isnt bad to drill like this so dont worry.

What is wrong with putting the MB left of thumb?  I have a Cell Pearl with the pin over ring and MB left of thumb and I love it.
