Continuing with the tremendous success of the original Harsh Reality, this pearl version is a much-anticipated addition. Maintaining the same colors as the Harsh Reality Solid for fans of the series, the pearlized version is the only polished/pearl asymmetric in the 900 Global lineup, delivering the most explosive backend reaction. The Disturbance A.I. Asymmetric Core retains the unique single density inner core of the original Reality, but introduces the groundbreaking A.I. Core for the outer core. This results in a lower RG, higher differential, and higher intermediate differential compared to the original Reality, offering a similar shape but enhanced overall performance on heavy oil patterns. The Reserve Blend 902 Cover, finished with Reacta Gloss, shares a similar chemical composition with the S84 Response Cover found on the Reality. However, the Reserve Blend 902 Pearl pushes the technology further with increased microscopic pore sizes, leading to greater oil absorption and displacement, and ultimately, more hook.

Color: Orange/Silver/Black
All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown

The Harsh Reality Pearl features the same Disturbance AI core found in its big brother but is now wrapped in reserve blend 902 pearl. This creates a very familiar shape that was perviously found in balls like the Altered Reality and Eternity. I find myself throwing the Harsh Reality Pearl after my Harsh Reality and GEM start seeing the front part of the lane too much and going too forward downlane. The Harsh Reality Pearl is available for purchase from any Storm VIP pro shop today!

COMMENTS

Reliable, Predictable and Versatile

The New 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl is an upgraded replacement of the beloved Altered Reality and Eternity seeking a stronger asymmetrical option.

The Harsh Reality Pearl features the Reserve Blend 902 Pearl coverstock finished with Reacta Gloss, which allows it to glide smoothly through the front part of the lane and respond sharply at the breakpoint. This makes it an excellent choice for medium to heavy oil conditions.

It shares the Disturbance Asymmetric AI core with the original Harsh Reality, providing a low RG (2.48) and high differential (0.054), which contributes to its strong hooking potential and continuous motion down the lane.

On the lanes this ball performs exceptionally well for allowing me to play deeper lines with confidence. I started in the track and migrated a far as 4th arrow before light pocket hits left weak corner pins. It stores energy effectively and offers impressive recovery and continuation at the back end.

Its versatility, provides a strong mid-lane read and a powerful backend reaction, making it suitable for when the lanes transition for me.
Even for strokers and crankers, the Harsh Reality Pearl offers a reliable and predictable motion, making it a versatile addition to any arsenal.

I compared mine to the Harsh Reality Solid which had earlier mid-lane read and total hook. My 5 ball arsenal would include the Xponent Pearl, Xponent and Sublime'

Overall, the 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl is a versatile with its strong hooking potential and reliable motion make it a valid addition to any bowler's arsenal.

Drilling pattern: 4 3/8 x 4 1/2 x 2 5/8
Pin position: Above bridge
PAP: 4 1/2 over by 1 up

Next up. The Harsh Reality Pearl. I drilled this with the same layout as my new Harsh Reality looking for the step down when the solid version starts up a little too early or there is not enough head oil to accommodate the strong surface. Bowling on a slightly beat up THS, this ball got significantly further down the lane than the Harsh Reality and made a stronger move off the break point (as expected). The core in this ball is still strong enough to get the ball started in the oil, but the pearl coverstock still helps get adequate length before a pretty explosive backend reaction. I can certainly see this piece excelling on wet/dry league conditions or anytime a bigger solid, like a Harsh Reality or Gem, sees the front part of the lane too quickly and loses energy. Fantastic 1-2 punch with it's solid predecessor.

The Harsh Reality Pearl excels in delivering a strong, angular backend reaction thanks to its high friction coverstock and pearlized finish. When compared to current offerings like the Roto Grip UFO Alert and the Storm Proton Physix, the Harsh Reality Pearl stands out for its more pronounced and sharper backend motion. The UFO Alert, with its hybrid coverstock, provides a more controlled and smoother transition, while the Proton Physix, known for its solid coverstock, delivers a more even and predictable roll. In contrast, the Harsh Reality Pearl’s aggressive nature makes it a go-to option for bowlers needing a ball that can tackle heavy oil patterns with a strong, dynamic backend reaction.

The 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl features the new Reserve Blend 902 pearl coverstock and the Disturbance A.I. asymmetric core.  At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.48 with a differential of .054 and an intermediate diff of .019.  This ball is the perfect complement to the original Harsh Reality and then some.  When the original starts to burn up and roll forward too soon, this is the perfect ball to pull out of your bag.  The Harsh Reality Pearl can still handle the heavy volume oil just like its predecessor, but the pearl provides an added punch on the backend.  While the original Harsh Reality is limited to how long I can stay with that ball, the pearl version offers much more usability on a wider array of lane conditions.  Both the solid and the pearl need oil to be effective, but the pearl cover provides length on the medium conditions, as well as transitioned lane conditions.  The Harsh Reality solid and pearl are a great one, two punch!!

900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl – WWRD 7/26/2024
Cover: Reserve Blend 902 Pearl Reactive Core: Disturbance Asymmetric A.I. RG: 2.48 RG. Diff.: 0.054 Finish: Reacta Gloss 900 Global’s new Harsh Reality Pearl is an Asymmetrical piece that is good for Medium - Heavy Volume patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers, CG kicked out 1” from the palm, and the Mass Bias an 1.5” right of the Thumb. Out of Box ball motion clean through the fronts with a strong backend reaction on a left over Shark pattern. I compared this to Harsh Reality Solid (2-2 Right). The Pearl is 2-2 left of the Solid with cleaner motion through the fronts and sharper backend reaction. The Pearl will be a good #2 ball when the Solid starts to burn up. This piece will be good for all types of styles. Check Out the Ball motion Video on my YouTube Page: https://youtu.be/slOk2PCVKH8

Finally, a pearl reality back in the lineup! This one features all the latest and greatest from Storm Bowling Products; the A.I. core technology increases the core dynamics and really makes this ball unique. The Reality core has always been smooth and continuous, and paired with cleaner covers it has always been a house shot killer and a great 2-ball on flatter conditions. This ball is no exception. The earlier and longer hook phase characteristic of the A.I. core paired with 902 Reserve Blend Pearl makes for a clean, smooth, tippy pearl asym that compliments the rest of the product line. If you love pearl asyms for league or need a new one in your tournament arsenal, or are just a Reality fan, this one is definitely worth checking out!

Ball Specs: Harsh Reality Pearl
Color: Orange/Silver/Black
Coverstock: 902 Pearl Reactive
Core: Disturbance AI Asymmetric
Factory Finish: Reacta Gloss

Review:
The 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl is a standout addition to 900 Global’s high-performance line, delivering a powerful yet controlled reaction on the lanes. Building on the success of the original Harsh Reality, this Pearl version brings added length and a sharper backend, making it an excellent choice for bowlers looking to tackle medium to heavy oil conditions with confidence. One of the key strengths of the Harsh Reality Pearl is its versatility. It performs exceptionally well on medium to heavy oil patterns, providing enough traction to handle oil while still offering the sharp backend needed to drive through the pins with authority. Whether you’re a power player looking to open up the lane or a more traditional player seeking a strong finish, this ball adapts well to various styles and conditions. The 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl is an excellent choice for bowlers who need a reliable, high-performance ball that can handle medium to heavy oil with ease.

LANE CONDITION

Length: 42ft

Volume:26mL

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): House Shot

COMMENTS

Likes: Gets through the fresh oil/heavy oil fantastic.  I drilled this ball pin down to give me an earlier rolling motion.  My harsh reality pearl reads the midlane and continues through the pins every single time ive thrown it.  In comparison, the Roto grip attention star is a rounder shape with a more smooth motion to the pocket.  The Harsh reality pearl is a step or two above the attention star in terms of a tournament 6-ball bag.  10/10 from me!

Dislikes: There are no dislikes in terms of the ball from me.  I think 900 Global hit the nail on the head this this ball. The only complaints I have are simply a result of human error.  The more "up hit" you put on the ball, the more likely it is to have an over/under reaction down lane, but this is true with any ball.

900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl
Coverstock: Reserve Blend 902 Pearl Reactive
Core: Disturbance Asymmetric A.I. Core
Finish: Reacta Gloss
Layout: 5 ½ x 3 ¾ x 3
What I learned, enjoyed and struggled with:
All new Harsh Reality Pearl, HRP for short, was a new kind of look on the lane for me, I am known to “milder” asymmetric core balls with shorter pin because they mainly are too flippy for my current ball speed and game, but I found the HRP to be a new tool to add to my current arsenal, not really replacing anything other than a ball that was overlapping something else in my current ball line. If you review my YouTube video, you will notice I was able to play in the normal track area and just my angles a little to stay comfort in my zones, I felt comfortable enough to teach myself something I wanted to learn but was afraid to try due to prior injuries and the lack of time to really work on it. Even at 54 years of age, with 2 almost bionic legs, I taught myself how to walk around the ball return and slide at the gutter cap on the right side of the lane. Amazingly, I only took a few missteps and kept on going. A practice session of 2 ½ hours is unusual for me due to my overall endurance. I quite enjoyed this practice session. Every adjustment I made with the HRP, worked well and rolled other asymmetric balls I had, and this one was the most reliable from fresh condition to quite played out condition. Now for what I struggled with: The ball seemed to hit the tracer board and move quicker from that spot, if I positioned the ball a few boards left of the tracer board; the reaction would be more delayed. Which should normally be reversed because it would be a drier condition closer to the gutter. I overcame this by getting the HRP crossing the tracer board rather than getting the HRP rolling directly through the tracer board. I hope this information helps you and please visit my YouTube page – Roto Grip Rick.

900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl Review
Layout
VLS-5 1/4x4 1/4x2 3/8
Dual Angle-55x5.25x35
The harsh reality pearl uses the disturbance core with the ai technology wrapped with the reserve blend 902 pearl coverstock.
The harsh reality pearl is the strongest asymmetrical pearl in my arsenal.
The harsh reality pearl will  pick up in the oil where other pearls will skid and miss the  breakpoint.
I compared it to the harsh reality solid and the sublime.
The harsh reality pearl will create more length than the solid with more backend but still handle the heavy oil and it will read the midlane better than the sublime with more backend.
So if your looking for a replacement for a replacement for your altered reality but in a stronger version the harsh reality pearl will be a great option.

I drilled up my HARSH REALITY PEARL with a pin up layout of 4.5 x 4 x 2.5 layout. I have tweaked the surface with a 2000 pad lightly to get the initial gloss from the cover.

The HARSH REALITY PEARL was meant to be my strong pearl in the bag. I wanted a ball to use when the volume was higher or the pattern longer but had transitioned to where the strong solids were getting too forward but the asym pearls were too flat. I put this one up against my ATTENTION STAR and EXOTIC GEM. Compared to the EXOTIC, the HARSH REALITY PEARL is a little longer and smoother in the back end of the lane. The EXOTIC is still one of the earliest rolling pearls I have ever owned and the HRP doesn't change that opinion. Compared to the ATTENTION STAR and the HRP is a lot closer in shape and reaction. The ATTENTION is more forward for me but that is also the layout and surface prep I keep on the ball. I feel that the HARSH will be a good ball to play off the ATTENTION STAR for my bag because it will get thru the dryer developing fronts without going sideways at the break point.

Put this one in your bag if you are wanting a smoother option to your ATTENTION STAR or your EXOTIC GEM is starting to show signs of ageing, and you cannot find a replacement for it. But hit it with more surface if this is the spot you are trying to fill in your bag.

Ball: Harsh Reality Pearl
Cover stock: Reserve Blend 902 Pearl Cover stock
RG: 2.48
DIFF: .054
PSA: .019

HAND: LEFT (ONE HANDED)
PAP: 4  OVER / 1/4UP
BALL SPEED: 16MPH
REV RATE: 420
AXIS TILT: 20
AXIS ROTATION: 50
LAYOUT: 60X4.5X35

The Harsh Reality Pearl is my go to asymmetric  Pearl, this ball picks up earlier on the lane than my Attention Star making it far more usable on fresher conditions. I did make a surface change to 1000 grit than used smooth edge to sheen the ball, both my Attention Star and Harsh Pearl are the same surface.  The overall ball motion is what I would call slower or smooth, it doesn’t respond to the friction too quickly which helps me get the ball down lane better while still keeping the lanes blended when my solid asymmetric option is too much ball. Players who will like this ball will be players who are looking to have a ball up from the Attention Star and trying to play the lanes a little straighter.

The Harsh Reality Pearl is a strong asym pearl from the Roto Grip lineup. This ball will be the strongest pearl out the bag where there is typically more oil volume. This ball is stronger than an exotic gem although is similar in nature of it being a slower transitioning ball. This ball can be used on the fresh house conditions and or transitioned off of the stronger solids as a transition ball.
