Altered Reality
« on: January 14, 2022, 09:28:31 AM »
The 900Global Altered Reality carries on the success of the original Reality as a big asymmetric that doesn't act like one. This high-performance ball has the same unique shape but is best used on medium to heavy oil. The Altered Reality uses the S84 Response Pearl Coverstock that helps to store energy for the pins. The Disturbance Asymmetric Core is an asymmetric, compact core. This core and cover combination produces a mind-altering backend reaction.

The 900 Global Altered Reality continues the powerful Reality line, adding a Pearl option. The Asymmetric Disturbance core is wrapped in the pearl version of the s84 Response cover. This ball harnesses the power of the disturbance and moves it to the backend to give you the most down-lane shape of any high performance ball currently on the market.

I tested the Altered Reality on our high volume house pattern. Unlike most Pearl cover balls I had no issue throwing the altered on a fresh lane. I did have to trick it a little with my hand to keep the ball from over-finishing while playing straighter angles on the fresh. Rather than skidding too far or jumping off the friction early, the ball got back even on the fresh lane and left me a couple of 9 pins. However as the lanes transitioned the ball just got better.

This ball should be every pro shop guys "go to" for bowlers who want a strong ball with a lot of down-lane motion. Particularly guys who are a bit more speed dominant as it is strong enough for the fresh but keep coming around as you move in.

Color me impressed. I haven’t had a shiny asym in my bag for quite some time. I was reluctant to give the Altered Reality a chance but after seeing how it performed on tour I had to give it a try. It filled a giant gap in my bag that I have been needing for a while. It is tournament season and with all the different patterns I am bowling on I am surprised by how versatile this ball is. It gets down lane, takes a sharp corner but it doesn’t over shoot the pocket. I really hit my stride with the Altered game 5-6 when we had to move way left and pitch it right. It controlled the mid-lane INCREDIBLY well.

The new ball in 900 Global line is the Altered Reality.  I absolutely love the original Reality.  Which was a huge success on PBA tour and bowlers throughout the country.
Altered is the pearl version with the S84 coverstock.  I drilled mine with a pin down 5 inch pin from PAP.  Man this ball likes friction and this ball might be the strongest off the spot ball I've drilled for along time.  The Altered is just a very good ball period.
I have drilled a bunch of Altered's in the shop for all different styles.  No matter what your style or rev rate this ball just seems to kick the ten out better than a lot of big balls i've seen in awhile. So drill up one of hottest balls out there.

Altered Reality • Tour Engineered • 900 Series
Coverstock • S84 Response Pearl Reactive • Finish 1500-grit Polished
Core • Disturbance Asymmetric
Weight • 15 lbs. RG • 2.49 Differential • .052 Int. Diff • .018
Layout • 4 x 4 x 2.5
Tester PAP • 4 ½ R, 3/8 D Tester Axis Tilt • 12° Tester Rev Rate • 325
Test Pattern • 42’ THS (Typical House Shot) • Modified, Kegel Stone Street

900 Global continues its Tour Engineered Series success with the release of the Altered Reality. The “Altered” Reality is built on the tenacious Disturbance Core (which debuted in the original Reality) and is wrapped with the proven S84 Pearl Response coverstock. This exceptional combination makes the Altered Reality a powerful weapon. So, let’s see how it destroyed a THS!

The Disturbance Core found in both versions of the Reality is a unique core design that delivers an exceptional motion for straighter players like me. I like how this core builds momentum in the mid-section of the lane and then turns that energy into unrelenting power as it makes it turn off the pattern. And once in the roll phase, there is no stopping the Disturbance Core. It rolls firmly and takes no prisoners as it clears its way through the pin-deck. If you’re rev challenged and like playing down and in, you will appreciate this core’s ability to mimic that purely “mass” destruction like that of a
16 lb. ball.

The S84 Pearl Response Coverstock wrapped initially around the Volatility Torque goes beyond your typical “Pearl” coverstock. With its larger pore sizes and 1500-grit polished finish, the S84 Pearl reactive makes the Altered Reality an excellent choice for a typical league night! On a fresh THS, the S84 doesn’t hesitate through the front part of the lane. Instead, it clears the heads decisively and continues to carve its way through the mid-lane with smooth traction without being overbearing. Then, as the pattern began to break down, I liked how the S84 didn’t over-react in the mid-section or “jump” off the exit. Surprisingly, the S84 blended quite well through a typical league night. And being a higher-speed, low-rev player, the S84 kept me nicely in my comfort zone through the whole night.

Although the box 1500-grit surface worked quite well for me, one of the appealing attributes to the S84 Pearl response coverstock is that it is a Pearl “reactive” coverstock. As a result, it handles surface adjustments easily. So, don’t be afraid to dial in the S84 Pearl surface to fit your speed and rev rate. A little cut here or a bit of polish there can seriously make your Altered Reality explode for you all night!

In conclusion, the Altered Reality is another great stallion out of the 900 Global stables! The Altered Reality is an excellent choice as it will undoubtedly stand by itself. Further, it will also serve as a great companion to the original Reality when those pesky ten pins just won’t go down! Finally, for straighter and down-and-in players like me, the Altered Reality delivers results you can count on and a striking power that will keep you in the hunt all night long. So, talk to your local pro shop operator today and see the success of the Altered Reality for yourself! You will be glad you did!

Perfection in a bowling ball! I love this ball that much!!!! It's the definition of a ball that hooks to me. I get all the benefits of a shiny cover with the hook in oil of a solid. The Reality series is at the top of the list of balls ever made only 2 balls in.

900 Global Altered Reality Ball Review

Hey everyone, I’m back with another ball review, and this time it’s for the Altered Reality and in 15 pounds this ball is wrapped in the S84 Response Pearl Coverstock and comes 1500-grit polish with an RG of 2.49 and a Diff of 0.052 and .018 Mass Bias
Layout for this ball is 4.5 X 4 X 2.5
Let me first start off by saying this has been one of the most fun balls that I have thrown and haven’t had that feeling since Storm’s Phaze III. It started out by shooting 299 game one out of the box I knew we had a winner. This ball has the Disturbance core which is one the stronger side and the S84 coved responses to friction very well with out being out of control. This ball I see can be thrown by many styles and thrown on different parts of the lanes.
BOWLER STYLE: RH - Power Stroker Rev Rate: 320 Ball Speed: 15-16 PAP: 4 7/8 right 5/8 up.

900 Global Altered Reality Ball Review

Layout: 35 X 4 ¾ X 45 Dual Angle

When I first drilled this piece I was expecting the S84 Pearl coverstock and Disturbance core combination to be a weaker reaction than my Dark Code. In my video ball review and first impressions with the length and how it revved up, to my eyes, it looked weaker but after using it more during leagues and getting some of the polish off the ball it is not a weaker ball than the Dark Code.

I bowl in a league with a heavier volume of oil due to the older surface and if I need a stronger asymmetric piece with the pearl cover this is the ball I will use. This ball is clean through the heads but will rev up earlier in the mid lane than the Dark Code to help me control the motion off the dry. Now that I am bowling PBA 50 events with more volumes than our local house shots this ball will get some play. This ball was too strong to use on the 39’ Mike Aulby pattern but when we bowl on a shorter pattern, Del Ballard, this should be a choice in the arsenal.

Today we will be reviewing the 900 Global Altered Reality. The 900 Global Reality has a low RG value of 2.49 a high differential of 0.052 and a low intermediate differential of 0.018.
The Altered Reality has the S84 Response Peal Reactive cover and the Disturbance Asymmetric Core.
The Disturbance core was designed with a focus on a shape that will fill a space with the least amount of material, yet still yield the RG/Diff values that all bowlers need.
The S84 Response cover promotes up to 20% larger pore sizes which in turn ensures maximum traction on heavy oil.  In addition, the Altered Reality will rival the original Volatility Torque with the S86R cover that was an asymmetric hybrid.
In the videos you will see how the core cover combination comes together with an early revving motion in the heads combined with a strong backend reaction.
I did a ball comparison to the 900 Global Reality, 900 Global Zen and a Strom Dark Code on two different patterns, on lane 1 is the PBA Dragon Pattern and Lane 2 is the house shot Kegel Stone Street.
First up is the 900 Global Reality, the Reality for the purpose of this video at box finish, on both lanes you will see how the Reality is stronger in the midlane and starts up quicker but down lane the Altered Reality is stronger.  To get the Altered Reality to blend the pattern better and start up quicker try hitting it with a 500/4000 Abralon if the Altered Reality is still too strong and burning up leaving the 10 pin try a 5000 Trugrit pad.
In comparison to the 900 Global Zen, the Zen will be a litter more smoother through the midlane due to having a symmetric pearl coverstock but a touch more reactive on the backend giving you an option to open up your angles.
The Storm Dark Code drilled pin down can give an option to ball down from the Zen when the lanes become a little dryer and more cliffed just being a very smooth read through the midlane and a great option on patterns to keep your mark in front of you.
In my bag the Altered Reality will sit below the Reality on a heavy oil pattern or a fresh house shot depending on how much oil is in the mid lane.  Then you can ball down to a 900 Global Zen then the Dark Code.

I drilled up my ALTERED REALITY 45 x 4 x 30. I have lightly hit this with 3000 abralon.

My intent was to have a big core pearl that would be strong and continuous on the back end. The ALTERED is just that ball.

I have thrown this on several conditions including PBA50 Johnny Petraglia 46 foot. The ALTERED is continuous compared to my heavy hitters like the NOVA and PROTON PHYSIX in that I could go to it when those 2 big oil monsters were starting to lag in the back end and straighten out. I can see even going down to 1500 or 2000 with this to smooth it out if the condition is more flat in the middle and you need to smooth it out in the back.

The new 900 Global Altered Reality features the S84 Response Pearl coverstock wrapped around the Disturbance Asymmetric weight block found in the original Reality.  The RG at 15lbs is 2.49 with a differential of .052 and an intermediate differential of .018.  This ball is a great complement to the original Reality.  The Altered Reality is about 3-5 boards of overall less hook for me than the original Reality.  It is much more versatile for me than the original, meaning I am able to throw the Altered on a wider variety of lane conditions.  Where the original Reality is more suited for longer or heavier volume patterns, the Altered is best on the medium or broken down patterns.  The box finish on the Altered Reality makes this ball cleaner and more continuous down lane.  The Altered Reality has a quicker response to friction and is more angular on the backend than its predecessor.  When the Reality starts leaving the weak corner pins, I can pull out the Altered, and just send it to the dry and watch it come roaring back and shredding racks.  This ball is a must have for every serious bowler.

900 Global Altered Reality

S84 pearl coverstock

Disturbance asymmetric core

The Altered Reality is as advertised and expected. A very strong, high performance, asymmetric core ball that can fit as the strongest pearl in many bags.

The Altered is a great compliment to the original Reality. The strong cover helps the ball get downlane but still provides a controllable backend. Bonus...it seems to help me with the wet/dry. I assume that is because the cover is so strong that it is still getting a little traction in the oil, instead of going full-out skid/snap.

Currently this is my go to big pearl. Ball down from my Nova, ball up from my rst x2.
