Grip
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
Ball NPS Score: 100.00
Coverstock: F64 Reactive (AMF uses a numeric rating system designed to differentiate our coverstock strengths. F10 least aggressive - F90 most aggressive. Note: Core dynamics must be taken into account with shell strength when selecting equipment.)
Core Technology: Asymmetric
Color: Blue/Purple All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown.
Finish: 2,000 Abralon
- A few tiny pit holes in the cover stock of the ball are normal
RG: 16#: 2.473 15#: 2.487 14#: 2.505
Differential: 16#: .054 15#: .054 14#: .051
Description: The Grip is a whole lot of performance and technology, for not a lot of cash. The F64 coverstock comes with a 2,000 grit Abralon box finish to provide plenty of traction on the lane. This shell is easily fine tuneable and can be adjusted to 4,000 Abralon or polised to handle lighter volumes of oil. The asymmetric Double Cross core was specifically chosen for it's low Rg and ability to provide a smooth predictable ball motion. Grip - all the traction you want, with all the control you need!

Likes: I really enjoy this ball. For the price it gives you a highend performance reaction. I drilled my Grip for fresh patterns and heavy house patterns. This ball performs great by reading well and accurately in the middle of the lane and great continuation. The surface is also very manipulative by sanding it it hooks fairly early and at a smoother surface it works great on your typical house patterns.

If I could some this ball up in one word it would be "Benchmark", this balls core to coverstock combination gives this ball a very predictable roll that can be used on alot of patterns. I love the way this ball makes a great move in the mids and still retains energy even when the lanes break down. This ball reminds me alot of the old AMF Tour Menace as far as ball shape is concerned. This ball will be very user friendly on a variety of patterns, with minor adjustments on this user friendly coverstock. This is one heckuva ball for the price. You will not be disappointed. My PAP is 5 15/16 x 5/16 up. Don't miss the boat on this one! I have attached a picture of layout I used. Dislikes:

The grip is a very strong ball. It has a good snap with a lot of energy to the backends.its very good on heavy oil to mid lanes.

Likes:  The Grip is a solid oil ball at a great price!  Lots of "grip" had to say it.  The ball has great midlane roll and an extremely continuous backend.  It wants to keep coming.  The ball's motion is very easy to read and gives me lots of confidence on the lanes. Put a smooth Dual Angle layout for me and my lower track of 65 4 1/2" pin 45 to the VAL.  This ball for my slower speed is a true oil ball that doesn't show signs of quit on the backend.  Reacts more like a symmetrical ball.  Can't use it on drier fronts OOB with the 2000 abralon.  Took it to 4000 and that enabled me to get 3 games out of the ball on a THS.  On Kegel Challenge Pattern Route 66 ball was a beast!  Good midlane opened up the pocket for me and carry was excellent.  Great ball for the buck!  Definitely a benchmark ball for AMF.

Layout – 4 X 4; pin below the bridge; 1000 abralon, no shine; 16 lbs.

The AMF Grip is the perfect compliment to the Bank Roll. While the Bank Roll is a smoother continuous, arcing motion, the Grip is more of a snapping motion and lays off a little on the backend. With the surface and layout I have on this ball, it starts up a little bit earlier than the Bank Roll, but does not hook as much overall. I found success with this ball on most fresh patterns because it reads the heavy oil very well. I also found success playing the gutter on more difficult patterns when the outside boards are not hooking so much. For example, I used it on a 39 foot European Sport Pattern the other day playing right up two, three, four. The ball would make a nice stable motion off the corner, but then lay off just perfect for playing these extreme outside angles.
