AMF Cobra
« on: November 13, 2009, 05:05:49 AM »
I came across an old AMF Cobra urethane and I'm about to re-drill it for myself.  Do any of you remember this ball?  Any idea of what I can expect from it?

Thanks

I knew some that began throwing it in place of their Faball Blue Hammer when it first came out...in some areas, it was one of THE balls to have (yes, such debates existed even in the urethane era).

I had one when it first came out.  First finger-tip ball.  I dusted it off and put a light coat of polish on it a few years ago for dry lanes, still worked great.

IIRC, it has a light bulb core.  Dull, depending on your rev rate, would work on medium, if you want it for drier, then just a little polish will do the trick.

lightbulb core. i had 4 or 5 of them. shot 3 299's and 805 wih them. Ball was very driller friendly. the ball had about the same amount of hook as the dull blue hammer but a little longer and then stronger off the spot

The original Black Cobra had the pin at the bottom of the ball, you needed to trace it around to the top to make sure where the pin would be located on the top of the core.

It was a typical light bulb style core design. 2-piece urethane.

First year it was on the bottom . After then it was on the top like now. After 3 years Columbia took the core, made it a little denser and brought out the Beast
