HEIST Discontinued???
« on: August 28, 2008, 12:47:41 PM »
Has the HEIST been or going to be discontinued?????

The reason I ask is because Buddies has it for $84.95, Bowling.com $79.95 and yet Bowlingball.com has it for $139.95. Just wondering what's up?

yea, this thing was in the specials list from most distributors about 3 months after it came out. it was a little over priced for the reaction.

hell, i'd say pick one up if u can for that price. It was a little over priced, it is more of a mid-priced ball, but has some great performance. Guy at my house just shot 824 with a Heist hes had for almost a year. Great powerful arc from it.

For me the HEIST was a great ball and I place it as the best ball I ever owned and I've owned dozens of balls. Not hundreds like some people, but I've owned more than my share and the Heist tops them all.
For me, the Heist was so versatile and playable on such a large variety of conditions.... light oil - medium light - medium - medium heavy - carry down - it handled all of these conditions for me without hesitation on the Brunswick Pro Anvil Synthetic Lanes in the house that I do most of my bowling on.

For my style and speed it was a perfect match and always seem to reserve all of it's energy for the end regardless of conditions and never seemed to roll out on me. I usually buy a couple of new balls every 6 months or so even when I don't need any and I know that a new ball isn't going to do anything for me, I still buy a couple anyhow and I did so recently and gave my Heist to a senior bowler in my league that badly needed a new or different ball and couldn't afford one. I felt with the new balls, I wouldn't need or use it much any more. How wrong I was....the new balls don't work as well as the Heist and had I kept the Heist, I would now have switched back to it and one of the new balls (Storm Rapid Fire Solid) would probably be sitting in the closet. The other new ball (Ebonite Playmaker) has done well and so far I like it, but it doesn't cover as many conditions as the Heist did.

That is my experience with the Heist and I have heard good reports about it from other bowlers on this site also. That is where I don't understand people saying it was a good ball but an over priced ball. I think people must think that since it's name is AMF and it's name isn't Brunswick or Ebonite Storm or etc, that it should be a lower priced ball regardless of how well it performs. I've had high dollar balls from all of those companies that couldn't even begin to compete with the Heist.

John, all of my life I have learned things the hard way and continue to do so....lol

I did the same thing on the Havoc a couple years ago and it looks like it took a second time to teach me something this time. Normally when I get a new ball or balls, it works as well or better than the old one(s), but that wasn't the case this time.

I am considering getting another...the only thing bothering me is that many times a person can get another ball with exact same specs and drill the exact same way and the ball never works the same as the first one did.

I bought a used Heist from tekneek here on BR.com and I echo Brickguy's sentiments on the versatility.  Mine is a 5 x 4 layout, pin over ring finger.  I have mine at 1000 Abralon and like it better than when I had the cover at Resurrection and Snake Oil.  Might have to pick up another one of these on closeout and try a different layout.
