Rico for a Night Hawk
« on: June 22, 2008, 05:02:19 AM »
I have a new black Night Hawk on the way and am considering trying a Rico drill on it, which would also be a first Rico for me.
Would appreciate any input on this idea.

My PAP is 5 over and 1/2 up.
I'm looking for a smooth, even roll on medium-heavy oil.

My ball speed is more on the slow side (unfortunately I don't have an mph rating for you) and I'd say I'm a tweener (lefty). It's been said that I'm slightly rev dominant. I hope that helps.

Tried my first Rico on a gamebreaker(Pap-43/4"x0)an I love the way this ball rolls.Have used it on the viper an chameleon patterns so far in league works really well. The first ring of oil is about a 1/2" away from my middle finger with the bow tie right next to my middle finger

I have the same PAP coordinates (5 over, 1/2 up).
I have used the Rico layout on the following balls:
Break
Break Pearl
Creature
Creature Pearl
Code
Complete NV
Buzzbomb
XXXL

I am a stroker (working towards a tweener lately by staying under the ball longer). I can use any one of these balls on a THS. It's just a matter of adjusting the angle at which I attack the breakpoint. On PBA patterns, I have also had great success with these balls. Coverstock selection is the first thing to consider based on which oil pattern we run into each week. That said, the Rico layout provides a strong, yet controllable reaction for me when the ball reaches the end of the pattern.

I am a big fan of this layout and have recommended it to a couple frineds (one with similar style/PAP as me, and another with a lower track (almost a spinner).

The higher tracking guy noticed the ball was a little earlier and smoother than his usual pin up drills (makes sense).

The lower tracking guy was floored with the difference. The local driller was laying out most of his balls with the pin next to the ring and CG stacked (never even tried to locate his PAP). He was getting very little flare and a squirty reaction with his old balls. His first Rico layout actually flared and carried for him. He shot his first 800 just two weeks after I laid his ball out for him. Made me feel good

To sum things up, I would not be afraid to use this layout on anything, but it all depends on what you want out of the ball. If you are after a certain reaction, you should drill the ball accordingly.
