I came across a amf XS nib, I been trying to find some info on this ball so I can punch it up. I'm not sure if it's urethane, symetrical, light oil......etc. I must admit it's a pretty kool looking ball. Anyone with some info on this ball I'd appreciate some feedback.

If it's the Bone colored one, you have a gem on your hands! It's crazy storng on med volume/med length oil. Many people didn't like it because it was too strong...Well know this if I could get another one mine would be drilled 4x4 and just watch that thing go nutz!

Reactive
Asym core
Pin up over the ring finger CG stacked drilling was a great reaction from this ball
I had the test ball they had sent out before they made this one a production piece and it was black in color and was absolutely amazing I wish I still had it,
they lost a lot of the reaction shape when they added the white to the coverstock

I had the Bone XS and it was a great, great piece for me. I had mine drilled for a hook-set reaction and it worked beautifully. One word of caution: the ball is quite allergic to oil.

I've got one as well, 14lb (14lb-1oz) with 4.5 oz of topweight and a 3.5 inch pin out
.
Been trying to decide whether to drill it or not.

No, not yet
. I was going to drill it right up after getting it, but couldn't make up my mind about the pattern. In the meantime, I got other stuff and just ended up experimenting with those.
The XS occupies a place of honor, proudly displayed at http://www.bowlingballvault.com/companies/1-amf/711-xs . It is 15yrs old, so it'll keep for a while if necessary

yes, mo pinel did design the cores for the xs series of amf balls.

I'm not positive about this but I think the AMF XS series was designed by Mo Pinel, the main draw back about this ball was it had a Mass Bias that was Not marked, so it was easy to mis-drill these balls back in the day. If you draw a Line from the Pin through the Cg to 6 3/4, this should be the Mb point but because the Mb location is not marked, it's just a guess with these balls.

I would spin it up on a determinator to find the High RG Axis just to make sure... I'm not sure of the quality control on the ball.. i don't think the ball was marketed as an asymmetrical ball I don't know if they oriented the core any particular way..

Ahhh the XS Bone. What a great ball that was and I only wish I could find one in my area.I've seen some on the racks but all around 16 lbs.Would love to find one around 14 and single drilled.A pain to keep clean but a very strong ball.I miss mine as well as my Triton Elite and Attitude III from Brunswick.Your a lucky guy.

I have one that probably has a couple thousand games on it. Great ball. I still break it out and use it from time to time.
If you want it to stay reasonably clean, you're going to have to polish it. If you leave it matte finish or sand it, it will look like an ashtray after 5 minutes of use.

The white xs ball is an asymetric reactive resin.

I wish I could find one in 14lbs.I found a couple on the racks at the lanes I bowl in but both were too heavy. It was a great ball.

When those got discontinued, I bought a case for around $100. Guess I should have held on to a couple of them.
