Angle remake
« on: November 04, 2007, 01:26:56 AM »
Hey everyone, i'm getting my Red/Silver Angle remake drilled this week, but I have a question. I've never thrown a pancake core ball anytime lately. Last I threw one was maybe.. 8 years ago? LOL. And of course, i've change drastically since then. I'm wondering.. How weak are pancake core balls?

This I agree with.

generally, not much reactivity is placed in a Pancake cored Reactive ball so this should be an excellent Dry to Light oiled Lane ball!

This I do not agree with. This should be a very mediocre ball for dry and light oil. There are many other very good resin balls for dry and light oil and they have real cores, not pancake cores.

I believe that unless you have lots of tilt and/or lots of rotation angle and some better than average revs, it is a poor, even reacting, VERY, VERY arc-y, ball with very little continuation.

Thanks for the help, guys.. What if you're bowling on a light-mediumish, burnt backend shot.. Will this even the shot out, or be a helpful choice ball? Thanks!

EDITED: for condition fixing. I stated the wrong kind of shot lol.

As far as I know, pancake cores will even out any shot whether you need it to or not. The main problem is, inmy opinion, as I noted, lack of continuation and hitting power. Control they have a-plenty.

Thanks charlest, how about the Orbit Extreme Sky Blue? I understand that's a remake as the last Orbit Extreme, which must mean it's a remake of the Track Desert Heat with a different label. This could/would control the backends as well, wouldn't it? I may just go with this. No need to worry about pin carry. Because that's a big worry already at this center I bowl at. It's sometimes tough to carry already..

The Angle Remake is the original Black Angle. I you are calling the Red/SIlver (pearl) or the Blue/Red( pearl) a remake you are mistaken. They were ever made before. Also we used a very nice versatile performance resin not available on Scouts. Our Performance is very nice for a "pancake" ball and as those in the know can tell you the coverstock makes up about 80% of a balls performance.

the Blue Sky is a solid. It will be more approriate (for the average rev, for the average ball speed) person ofr medium to medium-light oil patterns. The peral is more appropriate for that same person, for light to medium-light oil.

Those Angle with a pancake core are apropriate for light oil, IMHO.

The Orbits use Super-FLex. It can a very strong end when used on too little oil for its core. SF's performance is very linked to its core capabilities.

Re: orbit extreme related to the Desert Heat

You're making a HUGE mistake in relating one ball to the other. The cores are upside down and that means a major change in specs and ball reaction.
OE: RG=2.49, Diff= .035
DH: RG:2.57, DIff=.020

Large difference!!!!!

Both CAN control the reaction in different ways.

Thanks again, Charlest!

Hmm.. What if I drill the Orbit Extreme Sky Blue really weak? Maybe like a 6" Pin to PAP keeping the pin high? Plus some Secret Sauce? Will that give me the control I need? As long as I have a ball to control these stupid flying backends, i'll be happy! LOL.

I have not yet tested the Secret Sauce (I do have a sample.). I do not believe it hinders/reduces the backend. Track's Delayed Reaction or Ebonite's Extender Polish does that.

That will give you control BUT the coverstock and its finish rules. I cannot say if it will reduce the reaction enough to handle the oil amount you are  encountering.

FYI I have a Columbia Sport ball, which was designed for control around 2000, on sport conditions. It has TEC particles with a control core. It came polished but I sanded it to 4000 grit (which may have smoothed out the soft particles of the TEC compound) and then I applied 2 - 3 coats of Delayed Reaction PLUS another 2 coats of a regualr polish. It is giving me a good attempt atdown and in or as close as my release will allow.

Okay I sort of get what you're talking about, charlest, i'm no genious, but I get the general points of things. (I'm kinda bowling smart for a 14 year old lol).. Anyways.. I see what you mean. I'm pretty sure, in my experiences, the Sauce adds a good push down the lane, so that's why I said i'll put the Secret Sauce on it. So maybe i'll go 4000 + Secret Sauce, and see how it works from there. I'm gonna drill it probably a high 6" pin to PAP, so that's already some easy length. I don't want it to be super weak, just enough to control these backends. The lanes do have a good front part of oil on the lane (I have run my finger through it, and see it lol), but then the backends just have nothing. Little strips if anything! So i'm hoping this ball can help somehow! Any more help is appreciated

FYI....I drilled my Orbit Sky Blue very strong 4 x 3 with a hole.  The only time I'm able to use it is when there is a ton of friction. To compare it to a Heist or a NHP it's much weaker. Maybe I'll put a video together to show.
