Added an Nkryption Code to the family...
« on: July 09, 2009, 04:11:40 PM »
Bought a Nkryption Code from tekneek that was a blem (either a mismarked or severely lopsided MB). To give you an idea of just how wacky this was, if you laid out this ball with the CG in grip center, the pin would have been above the fingers in a lefthander's track and the MB would have been above the fingers in a righthander's track.

I'd been wanting to try a Girard layout on a medium ball for awhile (I have it on a heavy oil ball, a Columbia Reaction Roll, and a light-oil ball, an AMF Bull Whip.). So I put it on this ball, which left the pin in the place it usually goes and actually got the MB over about where MBs typically go (thumb-positive quadrant, just beyond VAL).

I then polished it to a mirror shine with Storm ReactaShine.

Counting practice, the first 11 balls were strikes, then a 4-pin, strike, 10-pin, and off the sheet in the third game of our second-shift league.

Ball has a massive move in the mids. But what's really interesting is the Girard layout. The Brunswick guys talk about this layout making the ball take "a different path through the pins," and you can observe it. Light hits weren't stellar but high hits were throwing messengers and pins out of the back.

Shot a nice number for series with it and a Break S75. This ball really looks nice with a high polish, too. Probably my favorite of the "new" AMF balls.

You can get these balls pretty cheap these days and I would jump on one if you find it.

It's hard to compare the two because I have modified the Nkryption Code a great deal.

The drill pattern on the N-Code, for starters, is a pattern that pretty much forces you to be more direct in the front part of the lane. Then, I polished that ball up to a high shine in order to work in the drier environment I am accustomed to.

And, my S75 has a fairly unique drill pattern on it, too -- pin on the VAL 4 inches above the PAP, MB at 9 o'clock to grip center out in the middle of the track, plus a light coat of polish over the factory surface.

Nonetheless, here's what I can say: The S75 can handle a lot of oil. It is very versatile, however, and can play down into the medium range before you have to bag it. Carry is just unbelievable. It may be the best ball I've ever thrown.

The N-Code, the way I have it set up, is ideal for mediums. Polishing that cover makes it act like a strong pearl. Great move off the spot, heavy drive through the pins, great carry. Aside from the carry, it's a very out-what-you-put-in kind of ball. It will help you cover up some mistakes but mostly its strong point is that if you throw a good shot, you get rewarded accordingly (and that's not necessarily true of all balls).

Both balls are some of the best lookers you'll see, too.

You could drill a S75, N-Code, Code (or for me, a Heist Pearl) and Link and have a four-ball arsenal that could play anywhere.
