I'm talking about the solid red ball, not one called the Extreme Courage, which was pearlized. I think the red was 1000 grit polished solid Super-Flex.
I just won on Ebay and I'd like to use it for an outside line on light oil (Inside is medium oil). I was wondering just how mild I have to drill it or how fine I have to sand it (possibly 2000 grit) and repolish it before i can use it on an outside line.
I have medium speed (16-17 at heads, 14 at pin deck) and medium revrate (250-300).
Is or has anyone used one?
Thanks.

It's supposed to be the equivalent of a Scout but that red solid had a really high Mica load which seemed to be a cousin of the Firehawk(one of the best balls no one ever threw). It's going to be alot stronger cover-wise than a Scout but that high RG-med diff will make it come off the spot pretty hard. Whenever I lay out a scout or those 3 piece assymetricals for someone I tend to go with higher pins and c.g. swings that will force an extra hole so we can fine tune the shape of the breakpoint. These 3 piece assymetricals can be mighty squirty off the spot when drilled aggressive. Now that I think about it, I didn't really say much or answer your question but I'm sure you can read into it and kinda get my point.

That's kind of what I was thinking: I made a major mistake.

I guess I'll put the pin somewhere above the bridge area and kick the CG out. This is the old Scout core; so I think the RG diff is only around .031 - which translates into not a whole lot of flare. So weight holes aren't going to modify the core a whole lot either. (wonder if these have a minor mass bias like the Power Grooves do?)
PLUS I can always sand the cover to 2000 or 4000 grit (God bless the inventor and marketer of Abralon pads!) and then put a high gloss polish on it. I've done that with SLay/Rs making them even milder than they are out of the box.

These do have a Mass Bias. Spin time on Scouts are around 13-14 seconds I believe so it's not strong, but definately workable.
