I think this was posted a while ago...but is it really true? Is AMF going to rerelease the Nighthawk? Because that would be so sweet...even more so if they do not play around with "updating" the ball. Leave it as it was - pure black, easy revs, hard arc at the back -- oh yeah! Please, somebody, tell me this rumor is true...

I actually saw one in person in early July at the bowl expo in St.Louis. Only difference I saw was it looked polished unlike the original which was 1000 wet sand. If this is the only difference that would be GREAT. Cant wait to get my hands on a case.

I hate throw a wet blanket over this wonderful thought, but better to deal with reality now. I see a potential problem.

Do you remember the reintroduction of the red solid Pulse? It never acted like the original because the then current version of Super-Flex used on the retro version was significantly stronger than the version of SF used on the original. It would seem that unlike Brunswick, Columbia does not keep the original versions of their coverstock resins in stock or BASF, their chemical (resin) company, does not retain the old formulas.

My fear is that the Super-Flex used on the new NightHawk with be much stronger than the original Super-Flex. Thus the ball won't be the same. It may be excellent, but it won't be the same.

I never threw it but what was anyone's reaction with the Track Heat retro?

Anywhere close to the original??? I hope the new Nighthawk is really close or I am going to have to give in a punch holes in one of my old NIB!!!!!

my heat remakes are really close to my originals. i always told myself the pulse remakes weren't the same because they didn't use the clear pin

Many people over at the Track forum said it was very close but not identical. I think that Track tried to make it close. Back in 1997, it was for medium to medium-heavy oil. Now it is probably for medium-light to medium oil.

With changes in lane oil viscosity, wouldn't the Nighthawk react differently than it did on the oils that were on the lanes, back when it was released. It would not work on the same conditions? correct?

Yup.
But even back then, a 1000 grit dull solid Super-Flex was a strong ball for medium-heavy oil patterns at a minimum, unless you were a fluffer or had very high ball speed.

But so far, with so many of these retro balls, most were "updated" versions and people, by and large, have been very unsatisfied, shall we say, with them.

But, from your words, you seem to want a ball that will do the same thing that the Nighthawk did back then. Don't we already have such balls or similar? My feleing, and it's only a feeling, is that when people was retro or remakes, they want the exact same ball. I think that's why on Ebay people pay such high prices for Danger Zones, Black Raspberrys and Labyrinths. and we're talking $200- 300!

I had bought a used Nighthawk from a friend, who was right-handed, I had the ball redrilled, used it a few times, and didn't like it. I sold it to a lefty, who plugged and redrilled it. He was getting rid of equipment about 18 months ago, and gave me a few balls. I redrilled the Nighthawk, tried it again . . . My track ir higher now, and the ball reacted well, but it was a duplicate (in reaction) of my Track Havoc.

I threw it on eBay, and it sold for $69...this was after being plugged 3 times.
I was shocked. A kid in my Sport league uses his Nighthawk and he loves it, he shot 300 this summer in league with it. He likes the control that the ball gives him.

Yes, the NH did have an enthusiastic following. More than a few people polished it to use it on medium oil. I think it was one of those really good benchmark balls, like the Morich Labyrinth and a few other balls, that could be used by many people under many circumstances.

Kind of shame that so many people nowadays have to have a super strong hooking ball with huge backends, instead of just balls that knock pins down. That's one reason I like Legends and non-Mass Bias/PSA Track and Brunswick balls so much.

Funny, I tried some of the Assymetrical Track balls, and they didn't work out for me. I have a Havoc with a 6-inch pin, that is drilled strong, works great for me, when there is dry to bounce off of on the left side. I basically use one ball, my Raw Doom, which has been working on just about any condition.
I just bought a Track Equation, which looks like an interesting ball.
I've been meaning to try one of the Legends balls . . . but there are so many balls out there . . . I'm going to make Legends one of my next balls.

Yeah, the re-release version of the Black night hawk has had a little shine put onto its cover, other wise that thing looks exectly like the original. From what I remeber, that ball was pretty popular ball. I informed a buddy of mine who has the original black Nighthawk about the re-release and I swear his eyes got to be like saucers. If the Nighthawk M2 that I'm throwing is any indication of that one, then I understand why people liked that ball so much.
