AMF triumph
« on: August 19, 2004, 01:00:25 PM »
just picked up my amf triumph (a replacement ball from a amf amp that cracked earlier this summer), i know the ball has been out for a while but, well worth looking into,16 lb. drilled 5 x 5 pattern, decided to go from 15 lb. to 16 lb.,
being left handed played up the 1st arrow on a fresh league shot on synthetics,
bowled with a few guys on the pair that work at the bowling alley, now i have not touched a ball since the first week of may & even had to rent bowling shoes shot 256 & 277 back to back, this ball recovers & hits with the best of them,
needless to say the guys suckered me into pot games, but i thought i would the donor but walked away with the cash.

Joe,

I read your review. I paid attention. I bought one. What a great investment!! I will post a review soon. This is an awesome ball. Very consistent, but definitely for medium-hvy to hvy oil. That seems to be where it really shines the most. This ball will come back from pretty much....anywhere!!

I was doing a comparison between old and new.Was bowling with an old sanded Blue Hammer (the Mike Tyson of its day). The Hammer hit was definitely still there, but the turn in medium oil was only 2-3 boards. Whereas the Triumph.....playing the same line....was seemingly 5-6 boards....and it ignored the carrydown. Finished out with a 6 bagger....totally shredding the rack on each hit....sending ALL pins left, on each strike. Truely a marvel.
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

KING PIN .. that is rotten luck .. sounds like something that would happen to me!

I realize you bought the ball on Ebay .. but since it was NIB you would think that AMF would work with you  and come to a solution that would be good for you and them! You have more experience then I in things like that .. isn't that a possibility? NIB is NIB wherever you get it! Wish you luck!

If it makes ya'll feel any better, I had an old bullwhip pearl that cracked in the bridge right after drilling.

I had the fingers plugged and redrilled to fix the crack, but it opened up again, so I just said " I'll throw it that way until it completly busts open.

Three years later, I finally sold it to a buddy of mine and he is STILL throwing it, and yes, the bridge is STILL cracked, but it never breaks out.

Don't know why they do it, I've been told that dull bits overheat the coverstock and can cause it, but not sure if that's true or not.  Also I've been told too much glue in the insert holes reacts with the coverstock and can cause it to crack.

Good luck with it. I am thinking about getting one of these as well as the new TITAN!

This is just a follow-up Mini-Review. See 1st review for layout.

Shot a 668 set Saturday nite, after treating my Triumph with a small dosage of Doc's Magic Elixir!! Is it the ball, or is it the juice??!! Who knows! I just know that this is one consistent ball, when played on the right amount of oil.I played inside, 25 to 13 at the arrows. Small belly that just stayed in the hole most of the nite. I shoulda moved deeper on the last game. Only shot 163. But a 264, and 241 ain't half bad, for a start. We were on synthetics, with medium oil. THS. This is one sweet piece, with a very distinct, smooth, move to the pocket. Don't sleep on it!

2 weeks into the wednesday nite league, still lovin the
Triumph, been able to throw it for all 6 games so far &
only 1 score under 200, do not really have to move my line much
into the nites league set.

Bought a used Triumph off of someone on this site a while back.  Used it in some pot games with some of the batter bowlers here last Sunday. Once I found the line (accross 8-9 board, out to about 5, then hammering into the pocket), I stayed on the same line the rest of the afternoon averaging 221. Others started asking what ball I was using because I stayed with the same one while they kept changing balls chasing the oil.  It's drilled with the pin at 2:00 and the cg a little right of center of grip with a small weight hole, and I track low (my PAP is rt 4 3/8" and down 5/8")

Love this ball.  Have a Velocity ordered and I wish they'd hurry up and get them out!

Yo, just a recap.....
Shot with my Triumph on lite oil!!! I really didn't think this was possible, but ended up doing okay. Shot 208, and 243 on synthetics and 237 on  guardian composite lanes. Go figure. This ball just keeps surprising me. Still a very consistently strong move to the hole. Great piece so far. Won a little money too, which ain't half-bad either! Season has just started so, we'll see!

I also continue to shoot well with the TRIUMPH. If you want ANOTHER SURPRISE .. try the JUSTICE PEARL on light/dry conditions .. the ball is terrific! AMF must have found SOMETHING .. I lost interest in them a NUMBER of years ago .. now they have be looking for the NEXT RELEASE!
