Husband's Birthday
« on: January 20, 2004, 03:18:38 AM »
My husband loves to bowl. I would like to purchase a bowling ball as a gift for his birthday but there are so many that I am unsure what to get. Can someone recommened one? His average is about 150. The balls are really expensive...Are there any lower cost options? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you-

Maybe something like a Power Groove.  Those are good balls (although not AMF) that aren't expensive.  It really depends on what he uses now, you don't want to get him a ball that isn't as good as what he has now.

He actually borrows one from a friend. That is why I think it might be a good surprise for his B-day. Thank you for the recommendation on the ball.
much appreciated...

Talk to your husband's friend, or someone else at the bowling center who bowls pretty well and also knows your husband.  You don't want to make the mistake of getting him something that, while brand new and his, as opposed to used and borrowed, is actually less effective than what he's using now.

Case in point.  I bowl with a mildly retarded guy on Sunday night.  Every two years, he gets a new ball for his birthday.  When I first met him, he was using a mild reactive ball, something like a Scout, and he carried a 150 average.

Last year, I guess someone tried to save a few bucks, and bought him a plastic Target Zone.  Now, his average is 139, he can't carry the 5 pin to save his life, and he's miserable.  So I'm having the pro shop plug my Flipside Wild, and drill it to fit him.  I'll bet his average will be back to 150 in no time.

I think your husband will be THRILLED to death with a BOWLING BALL .. thought I'd suggest a GIFT CERTIFICATE from the PRO SHOP in the area .. that will leave the choice to him .. and it is tough to choose!

Pro Shop certificate is the way to go IMHO.
