If you're talking about one of the Hype Pearls, it was a skid/flip ball (tall, thin core with decent amount of flare and highish RG) for medium-light to medium oil for medium revs, medium ball speed bowler. That drilling leans towards a skid/flip type of reaction. So, if your ball speed is greater than your rev rate, that should make the ball less flippy. If you're rev dominant, it would tend toward skid/flippy. If you have lower rev rate, it might be good for a down & in shot.

I think the ball was a great value for the performance offered.

If you're rev dominant, then use either a larger VAL angle (put the pin at the same height but further towards your track; put the pin under the center of the bridge or even under the middle finger),

OR
put the pin around 2" from your PAP to make it hook earlier and with less flare (this should add control and be less flippy)

OR
dull the surface slightly with a 4000 grit Abralon pad by hand to remove some of the shine.

Schwanstuker, how are yours drilled? I have both a Purple Pearl Hype and a Urethane Hype, and love them both. Maybe we can help you out with them.

My pearl could use a breaking in of the surface, but it is F45, and a pearl with a tall core... Hitting it with 4000 would make it much less sensitive. I like both for what they can do. For me, it's not equipment that I can go very left to right with, but if I can close up my angles a little, they're awesome!

4.5 Pin to PAP with multiple surface changes, the looks were good till the Pins told both balls that they were unable to move a ten pin off the deck. The Urethane was by far the worst of the 2 balls, the best thing AMF ever did was dropping these balls from their roster.

Are you coming around the ball?  It makes a big difference if you keep your hand more up the back with urethane. 

The urethane was tricky. Have to drill it really weak due to the high flare potential.

I polished that one, literally for weeks and never got a shine on it.
Also drilled it about 5.5" pin to PAP (pin over center of bridge) and still got 5" of flare from the darned thing. Strongest and least usable urethane I ever tried.
