Epoxy ball?
« on: May 16, 2005, 01:06:51 AM »
Some of my customers go wind of a ball being released. Naturally I heard here it is still in R&D.

Any recent info?

Last I heard, they were still trying to get the curing time down to where it would be practical to make it.

I heard that it takes at least 5 times longer to cure these balls, and if so, that would bring a production line to a screeching halt. No production means no revenue stream.

Until they get a handle on this problem, I don't see them going into mass production, and mass production is the only way to make money on bowling balls.

I don't understand why they don't just do a limited run if that is the problem, say 5,000 balls, like was done on the zebra balls/skull balls. Imagine how much they could sell for if they are half as strong as they say.

If i was makeing the next great shell, I would wait. see what falls out of the new USBC rules. If the cores are limited in what they can do then the shells mean everything. that way I would have the next great ball that everyone must have.

they could also be submitting it to the USBC(sp) to see if they will ever allow it.

of course shell evolution is what started the arm race in the first place.

if the new govering body wanted to put a limit on scoring via equipment they should regulate balls to urethane without chemicals or particles and pancake weight blocks. enough babbling.

This ball may never be released.

I simply cannot wait for a ball that hooks at my feet that I'll have to take up to 3500-4000 grit with a half a gallon of finesse-it to keep it from hitting the 7-pin.  I certainly hope that AMF has a pratical application for this pill.  Otherwise, I'm gonna invest in lane conditioner producing companies 'cause they're gonna have to put tneough oil out there float the ark to keep the ball from crossing over for me.

(sarcasm on)

Simply do a google search for "hook-in-a-box" and couple it with any AMF matches...

Seriously, it's probably getting stonewalled by the USBC and the BPAA.  Any ball that's as pourous as that ball is will wreak havoc on an ordinary oiling pattern.  For those who know differently, please correct me if I'm wrong, this ball will take a large percentage of the oil volume down the lane.  Even moreso than a medium-heavy load scuffed particle ball.  Maybe even more than a sanded burgundy hammer and that ball would have a small river of oil in tow after it went down the lane.
