mega MONSTER!!!
« on: March 20, 2009, 05:17:45 PM »
i never written a review before but i gotta write one about this ball..  i owned 2 amf ball..  one being the code (awesome ball) and recently the mega friction..  this ball is amazing..  ball drilled pin next to ring finger, cg kick out 45 degree and a weight hole on the side..  i bowled on a friday morning scratch league modified THS..  when i said modified usually kinda flooded with oil.  i never seen a ball that can ride the oil and snap so hard off the backend.  i was stunned.  while the other folks are complaining their ball not moving..  best ball for heavy stuff and great job for AMF developing, creating this monster!!!!!!!! 4 games series. 248-231-268-258

Kong69 try some polish to make it go long or have it drilled 6inches(the pin) away from of your PAP.

I have mine sanded to 4000 with storm stage 3 compound, then I have beans sauce over top for the extra length I wanted from this ball. This ball still has plenty of strength for playing up the oil line with enough cover to make a move in the back end.

very aggressive ball, arguably the strongest oiler on the market right now.AMF did well with this one!

I want to get this ball. This is how I bowl. I have a orange Ogre and the SS ogre. I can't use the SS because it goes to long the Orange I stand about three boards left of second dot (righty) and throw about first arrow. Basically a strait shot. The other house I stand about center arrow and throw between first and second arrow with the SS. My speed is about 14 I don't know my rev rate. I want this ball because it hooks but I don't know how to get it drilled. On the orange ogre the pin is about 4 o'clock to the ring finger and the CG dot is right above my thumb. Almost the same drill pattern on the SS. Any ideas on how I need to drill this ball? Or if I can even use the Mega Friction? It sounds like it will work for the house that I throw the strait shot.

This ball is designed for HEAVY oil, so I'm confused why one would buy it and not use it on HEAVY oil. Why buy it to alter the surface and try to force it to fit on less than HEAVY oil. there are other balls in our lines that are designed for the less than heavy oil conditions and perform admirably. .

i'm a storm guy but i threw a friends mega friction the other day on a fresh house shot.i figured i throw it since i still own an angle evoloution pearl. the pin was over the bridge and the cg kicked out about 45 degrees with a 1 1/2 inch hole on his pap. and it was still box finish, as i have no idea what that surface is but DULL. anyways, the ball for me was super early, and naturally that leads to nothing in the back. tried a couple shots at about 20 to 10 and it would not make the turn. keep in mind that i have about a 450-475 rpm rev rate. so my point is it forced me to square up, once i did that i was impressed with the roll of the ball. it reminds me alot of the trifecta that storm made some years back. with a different drilling and some more oil that ball would be a beast. i could see that ball working good on shots like  stopncrank

This ball reminds me so much of an old favourite of mine from 2000, the Brunswick Danger Zone Pro HP-H.  The look and the midlane readability on heavier volumes of oil is close to identical.  I used this ball onthe weekend just gone to win one of AMF's Australian Super 6 tournaments on a 41 foot 3.5:1 ratio 25 ml condition. Superb midlane readability. This was a 28 game tournie and the ball has only 29 games on it because I can't use it on a house shot.  Been in the bag 6 weeks so the tournament was my first real opportunity to see what it was capable of and for a slightly speed dominant player, this ball is gold!

FWIW, (thanks to Eric T at Global/AMF)

I drilled mine last week 4x3.25 with the pin 3 above mid line.  I haven't written anything because I haven't been able to truly use the ball.  It is too much for my 2 house conditions I bowl on which is fine because I wanted this to be a Nationals and heavy tourney piece.

I do want to make a comment regarding a possible reaction some may see when using this piece.  "If" the density of oil present on your house condition is not thick or heavy enough (even on a fresh shot), this ball can give the appearance of a very smooth rolling reaction.  Not sure if this nano is the same used on the old Track Mean Machine but for some and myself, the ball would roll very evenly without much finish.  On heavier densities, the cover should shine because it will be able to store some energy for down lane reaction.

What happens is that the cover is strong enough to eat thru a lighter density in the early part of the lane so it really can't store a ton of energy for the backend.   The ball doesn't truly rollout, it just rolls evenly throughout the lane.  Just wanted to share and will post more as I can get out and try the piece on a heavier pattern, thanks.

I love to buy big hooking balls and polish them up, especially if you don't see enough oil in your center. They'll work great on most medium conditions, because they don't hook up so early in the front.

If you like the core and cover, why change to a different core/ball for drier lanes when this ball matches up to your game..? You can get different reactions from the same ball by changing the surface and/or changing the layout.

Have one dull for heavier oil and one polished for less oil an/or with different layouts to boot. I highly recommend having more than 1 of the same ball if you like the ball and it matches your style. =:^D

Tough to know how I'm going to like the Mega Friction.  I haven't seen enough oil yet for it to show it's true colors.  Keeping it on hand to take to tournaments as a trunk ball (keep it in the trunk just in case...)

Threw it during warm ups at a small house tournament last Saturday that had a fair amount of oil, it was good but my Break S75 and my Visionary Immortal were better so it went back in the bag.

I drilled this ball up for Nationals and was able to play right of everyone for both sessions.I kept the ball in box condition and was able to play up boards that everyone said were not playable. In singles and doubles the lanes had been broken down from nine over and the shot right of that was fresh. Love those teams with a plan.I had no problem playing 5-8 if I held the correct speed. I did not want to move deep with the other three on the pair so the final two games I had to switch to the Sauce(weak drill/polished) to finish the set,but for the most part the Mega was the ball.My goal was to shoot 1800 or better and I came close enough to make money in brackets.

I will try the ball tomorrow on a modified house shot and expect to have an inside look on those conditions. If not,I won't be upset, as I have a choice of balls for that condition.I already know it will come through on the more demanding shots and that was my intent.

The ball had 3# top and 3" pin OTB and was drilled 4" from PAP 1/2" above ring with weight hole to bring it legal.
