How similar is the AMF Clutch and Dyno-Thane Threshold?

Same core, or at least 99 percent the same core. Cover is supposedly Soaker-derived, but is a low-load particle pearl. Both balls were made in Texas.

I have the Threshold, and it's slightly more aggressive than my Break S-75, which is saying something. I'm considering the Clutch or the new Clutch Pearl, but not if I'm going to get the same basic performance I already get out of my Threshold. Anyone have a Clutch and the Threshold and can make a comparison?

I don''t have the Clutch but gave a friend the Threshold new. One thing to keep in mind is the large difference in the stock surfaces, UNLESS you have modified your Threshold. Clutch comes at P4000 grit, while the TH comes in at 800 grit (US) plus it is a Soaker. That''s at least a factor of two in the surface roughness alone. I have personally always found the Soakers to have an added level of aggressiveness, in general.

Not sure of the mass bias strength (intermediate differential) of the Clutch, but I believe it''s just slightly less than the Thresholds, approximately .009".

Bottom line is I see the mica particles, the Soaker nature, and the lower RG of the Threshold to be the major differences.

2 cores with 2 different sets of rg numbers, 2 different covers and finishes = 2 different break points and shapes.

I've seen the Clutch thrown, and it was by no means stronger than the Break S-75. The pro shop owner here tried it as a step down from whatever he was throwing (not sure, but I think it was one of the newer Morich balls), and it was actually to big of a step down for him.

I had both (drilled about the same) and I can assure you that they are nothing alike. The Clutch can make a backend move that the Threshold can't even come close to. The Threshold is smooth and very early at 2000, great for wet/dry. The Clutch goes quite a bit longer with a STRONG arcing backend.
