So I've made some changes to equipment in the past and have had little resistance by the balls themselves.  However, this newly drilled Urethane Hype is just giving me fits.

Aside from a jackhammer, my two attempts to bring the surface on it up has failed miserably.  Granted it's urethane and it's hard but come on!

I'm looking for some things that have worked in the past and I'm going to stay away from things that didn't.

Tekneek, since I know you will read this...I purchased  your old Hype Urethane a couple years ago and it was awesome.  I kick myself for selling it.  I picked up this one to make up for my stupidity but I can't seem to hit the surface the way the other one was.  If you can remember, let me know how you put the shine on yours. 

At the very least, what polish did you use?

If you have a pro shop with diamond pads for a Haus machine, that is the best and easiest way.

Next best suggestion I have is to use Trizact pads. Trizact is the hardest abrasive  substance, common available, after diamonds. There's green, blue, orange and white pads, each finer than the previous.

I'd suggest using wet/dry sandpaper ONLY because it has so many grit levels. I'd start with 400 and go up, not skipping any in between grits. Use a damp sponge as a backing.

The only compound polish that worked for me was Storm's Xtra Shine and believe me, I tried them all. I was surprised that Rough Buff didn't help, given how abrasive it is. Even after using all the abrasives I had, and Xtra Shine, I only got a smoother finish, never got a shine.

I will third this. With alot of work, you can get it smooth, in the 4k abralon range, but I was never able to actually get a shine on it.
If you are looking for a current urethane shined, I would recommend the new Blue hammer or the Avalanche Urethane.

Well I was making progress...then the pully falls of my spinner.  DAMN IT.  So I suppose I need to get that fixed before I can spin it the rest of the way out. 

And I was making progress.

220 wet/dry, 400 w/d, 600 w/d, 800 w/d, and then the spinner broke 3 sides into 1000Abralon.

It wasn't a matter of slowing it down.  Over time cores that get out of balance throw that thing into a speed wobble.

The set screw on the bottom of the shaft of the cup rounded because of the wobble.  I have had to fix it before, now I have to replace the shaft.

Thanks for the heads up though. 

Oh, and in my case I got away with the 200 to 400 gap.  Lighter pressure between the two and longer times with 600 and 800.  It was really turning out nice.

We will have to wait to see now.

Took a few minutes while the kids where doing their thing at youth bowling and spun that rock out.

Seems like my spinner went to terd on me half way through 1K Abralon, so I went back and did 800 wet sand follow by 1000 and 1500 wet sand.  Followed that up with a buff or whatever you wanna call it with an old rag. 

Turned out awesome. 

Put 3-4 games on it yesterday.  All I can say is I made some mistakes.  I took too much core out of play with this surface.  It will work but I shouldn't have drilled it down so much.
