90% sure it was 600 grit US, dull, like so many dull, solid Super-Flex in that era, intended for heavy oil. Even today that surface, that cover and that core (super low RG, 2.45, very high flare, like 7-8") is going ot need a lot of oil or high ball speed on medium oil.

Here's some copy from that BowlingBallReviews.com web page

AMF - Whiplash
Description:
An AMF core with a Columbia coverstock means a new level of performance. The AMF design features a denser core that's double-shelled for dynamic integrity in every weight. Combine that with the Super-Flex Resin II coverstock from Columbia 300 Inc. and you're up a notch in power and control.

Specifications:
Line            Whip
Color           Red
Coverstock      Reactive
Core            2-piece
RG              2.450
Factory finish  Matte
Weights         12 thru 16lbs
Lane Conditions Heavy Oil
Cleared PBA     2/8/1998
Cleared ABC     1/1/1998
