Mega Recovery - How strong is it?
« on: March 22, 2010, 06:59:38 AM »
I'm looking at the MR as a ball for longer, med-heavy oil on synthetics when my Nomad Solid and Diesel Particle struggle at the break point and I have to slow them way down to get them to turn.  I'm slightly speed dominate (about 14 - 15 at the pins) with lower-medium revs and like to play anywhere from straight up 7 to a small swing from around the 3rd arrow.  Is the MR strong enough for what I want to do without having to make speed adjustments, or should I possibly be looking at a Mega Friction?  Any drilling suggestions for this?

The MF will be close to your Diesel, Its hard to give an exact yes or no if it will fit but with the correct drill it should fit within your current arsenal.  How are your current balls drilled?

For me the Mega Recovery is stronger than the Mega Friction I had drilled exactly the same. I have 2 Mega Recovery's one drilled up and box finish and 1 pin down and polished and both serve their purpose.

My Diesel Particle is drilled 3 3/8 stacked leverage with the pin beside my ring finger and a small wt hole down the VAL, and it is at about 800g with a light shine.  The Nomad is drilled pin at 2 5/8 even with ring finger, cg stacked, and small wt hole just below my PAP, and it is basically at OOB but has the shine very  slightly taken down with a well used scotchbrite.

Both of your current balls are drilled on the stronger side and that is most likely the reason why you have an issue at the break point.  The balls are simply done by the time they get to that spot...imo you should try a 4 to 4.5 pin from axis drill.  If you do that in a MR it will provide you a different look that would retain a little more energy and should help with the line from third arrow.  Hope this helps. Good luck.

The MegaRecovery is a strong consistent roll.  Mines drilled 5 1/2" pin to pap and only get just a bit more than 2" of flare and still have to play just inside 4th arrow on my 39ft THS, on Brunswick Anvilanes.  I am rev dominate though   It should more than strong enough.

at box if you use it on anything less it will burn up, unless you make severe surface changes, or have a higher ball speed to rev rate.

I'm going to try mine (5.5x5 oob pin up) tonight on a 40ft heavy volume Us Open shot on wood. I'm sure it will be waaaayyy too much ball oob but figure i'll try it there anyway. Depending on how much too much and how soon it burns up i may leave it at oob and try it on the 50 foot flat soup chot in 5 weeks

What is your axis rotation? If you have higher axis rotation the ball will naturally get down the lane easier than if you have a lower axis rotation! You need to drill a ball stronger with a higher axis rotation or in oil, or longer patterns it will never read the midlane and push pass your breakpoint.
