Need some feedback on the VILLAIN
« on: May 01, 2009, 02:40:21 AM »
I am wanting a good, mid-range ball with a smoother reaction and a milder cover for when the lanes start to break down.  I have been looking pretty hard at the VILLAIN and have a chance to get one at a great price.

Is this piece a true mid-range ball, or is it one of those "sleeper" balls that is much stronger than advertised (I.E. Emerald VIBE)?

Our lanes get pretty dry pretty quick. You can throw high performance for the first game, maybe half the second, but not after that. I have a great duo for really dry ( CLAW hammer and RAZYR hammer ), just need something more than the CLAW and less than "HIGH PERFORMANCE" level stuff.

I have also been looking at the Orbit EXTREME. Anyone know anything about that one as well?

This is just my opinion since I owned both ball you had mention. If you want a a better fit but a little stronger than the razor then the orbit extreme will be a sure bet. The villian definitely not for light oil.

Villain--good, mid-range ball...less hand, med-med light, lot of hand,, med- med-heavy.

Good step down from "high-performance". I do not believe that it is stronger than advertised (unlike the Maniac).

The shop guy I was talking to about these also mentioned the creature and said it was a good ball, but hasn't it been discontinued?  I looked at buddies and didn't see it listed.

The creature is listed as s-40 and the villain is f-45. The creatures numbers are 2.53 RG and .033 while the villain is 2.48 and .040.

The creature has a slightly weaker cover, higher RG, and lower Diff. and both are symmetric (which is what I want as assyms don't match up well with me).

I was thinking that the numbers would make the villain "rollier" than the creature, but I could be wrong.

Anybody that has thrown both of these might want to chime in on this one.

I've thrown both...I believe both are discontinued, but still relatively easy to get a hold of. Both very good "benchmark" balls. Both OOB, both drilled the same, Villain is a little snappier--a little. Both are smooth, Creature is a tad smoother. I like my Villain, I LOVE my Creature. Either one is a very good mid-range ball. If money is the issue and you can get the Villain cheaper, you won't be disappointed. If the prices are similar, I would get the Creature. Smooth, great step-down from High-End (I can go from S-75 to Creature with no problem). I usually carry the S-75, Creature, Red-Silver Pearl Angle, Plastic and that covers pretty much any league shot.

Well, I don't know how much I can get a creature for, but I can get the villain complete with drilling, finger inserts, and thumb sleeve for $120 out the door, tax included. (His supplier has them on sale in 14lbs because they ordered too many and they didn't move well at 14lb weight and they are just trying to move them out.)

The ball (villain) lists at Buddies for $107 and that's without drilling or grips.

I believe due to the Pulse core the Creature will be rollier than the Villain.

The Villain is a Triton Elite remake of sorts, should be just a tad lengthier with a bit more pop.

Personal opinion only:  I'd take the Villain over the Creature because my Creature gave me nothing but over under on any condition with any surface.

I got mine from http://www.bowlersdream.com/creatures40.html.

$90 shipped.. they went way out of their way to find the pin I wanted. I drilled mine with the pin at centergrip with the cg at 45 deg with no weight hole..

by the way.. I shot 299 with it the 2nd night out..

$90+$10 finger inserts+$10 thumb sleeve+$35 drilling fee = $145 with no pro shop to back me up.

I think I may check with my guy and see if he can get the creature as well for about the same price as the villain. If so, we may talk a little more before I buy.  But the villain just seems like the way to go for some reason.......

I have not tried the Creature...but I would like to.  With that said, I REALLY like my Villain on a broken down house pattern (2nd shift).  I would not hesitate to give the Villain a try, much smoother reaction than the HP stuff but with nice pop on the backend.  Carry is well above average.

Discontinued does not mean not availabe, simply means will not be in next years catalog.

I know.  Discontinued also often means great items at a discount price, and I think the villain at the pricepoint I am getting it will be quite a steal.

You fellas make some really great stuff, problem is, you have to find a way to erase the stigma of the A.M.F. name brand. There was a time when A.M.F. was seen as the industry leader, but too many years of gimmicks and neglect have left it just a shell of its former self.

If you can ever get people to understand that this is the NEW A.M.F. equipment, and not the same old junk turned out by "bean counters", you would be so much better off.

If old school TRACK lovers would just pay attention, they would LOVE some of  the new A.M.F. stuff I believe.

Have both. Villan stonger than the Creature (in box finish). The Villan for a tweener will cover a few more boards and a shaper back end. I shot a 300 with the Creature in 3rd game broken down track. Both are good pieces, the Creature beeter off the drier.

I have to agree with you here, was a big time old school fan of Track and find myself a current big fan of 900G and AMF equipment.
