looks sweet and rolls even better.  Nice ball to go down the boards or to open the lane up.

granted this is an older post but I just drilled a seed ball, from a friend of mine in the Detroit area, yesterday and got a chance to use it last night...

I have mixed emotions.  The layout ended up like 3x4, this drill puts the pin like next to my ring finger, cg is 1" below and 3 1/2" right of grip center.  So okay here are my issues, atleast on last nights house shot, 1) the ball had WAY more mid-lane read than I expected for a polished pearl and 2) the overall hook was more than expected but still not enough.

I ran into an issue where I had to keep moving left to find enough oil so it didn't check early but that created a fine line because a little too deep and washout...or something even better.

I know that the pin location is going to speed up  the roll, but I didn't expect this much with an RG this high.  I am going to try some surfaces and see what I can get.  I had a Darkstar that was somewhat the same way and I had to go with 4000 abr x2 and some polish to get it to do what i was looking for.

For anybody who's interested I will update in a week or two when I get a chance to make the change and put some games on.

I did mine with a 5.25 pin from pap and rolls very good.  I had to hit the cover a little bit to help with the small puddle but overall very impressed.

OOB didn't work....4000 Abralon polished didn't work...any other suggestions?  OOB created too much early read and 4000 Abralon didn't give any read.

Im thinking of trying a used up 4000 Abralon pad 2x  I want the high surface gloss without the polish.

Thinking that the 3" pin is too strong of a drill for your style...I would suggest taking the ball back to OOB and then hitting the back flares with a used 2K pad.

I am under the impression you cannot "only" sand part of the bowling ball.  If you are to sand the ball, it must be sanded uniformly over the entire ball.

You are correct...the USBC rules states the outer surface must be uniform but the gray area is the under that can be what ever you want.  So let's say you do hit your back flares with a 2k pad, then lightly take a used gray pad to the "outer" surface.  If you do it that way they your not breaking any rules.

I'm going to have to agree with the drilling thing.  I need to keep the pin out between 4 to 5 inches.  Thinking back about old equipment, I have had the best luck with weaker drilled strong balls and moderately strong drilled weaker balls.

I will work through some surface changes and go from there.  I will keep updating on the progress...thanks again, I really appreciate it.

So you are saying, as long as one uses the same FINAL prep on the ball, the ball is legal?  Don't you think this is circumventing the rules a little?

Do people really think if I resurface a ball and start with a 500 grit over the entire ball and then slowly take up the ball to 4000 on half of the ball, then put a very light coat of polish it is legal?  Or instead of polish, rub a slightly used 4000 pad over the whole ball after taking one side to 4000 is legal?

Not trying to get into a rules discussion, but I feel offering that kind of advice isn't necessary.  Others may feel differently.

By me offering some advice on a gray'ish type rule is only a suggestion. There are many so called little tricks you can do to get the desired ball reaction.  If someone chooses to try a trick or two so be it.  It's out there and many bowlers take the rules to the limits with out technically breaking them. It's up to the individual to decide if they want to go down that path.

The funny thing is I've seen balls pass at the USBC tournament that had obvious sanding to the flares and nothing is ever said?  Go figure....
