Title: OMG pearl owners!
Post by: Impending Doom on January 30, 2012, 09:44:24 AM
I finally buckled and picked one of these up. From what I've seen from this ball, its very clean and very angular on the back.
How do you have yours punched up? Looking at the weightblock, I was going to try to mimic the reaction I got out of my Xception. I had it laid out 60x5.5x60, and the thing was super long and then flippy off the friction. The higher RG makes me hopeful that I can get that kind of reaction.

I was afraid of a long and flippy reaction so I drilled mine strong, pin in ring (~ 4.5" pin-PAP)
and roughly 55 x 4.5 x 45 PLUS I added a P3 hole to add some flare and I softened the shine somewhat with a white SB pad.
It is now smooth and even, but needs medium oil at a minimum, First time I used it on less than true medium oil, I pinged 4 10 pins out of my first 6 frames. I knew I had to put it away. It hits well and is very much a control ball for me and on the medium-light oil I normally see. I guess I might not have needed the P3 hole.

I don't get it. I would have thought that the omg pearl would be hella angular , looking at the rg, weightblock shape, and cover. But your experience is that its a control ball? Heck, the sideways wasn't sideways, from what I heard.
Maybe I have to lower the second angle, to put the pin higher. I want a longer and harder move than "Control"

No,no,no.
I made it into a control ball by the drilling, the little surface mod, and the weight hole!!
Remember the oil we each see and our deliveries are very different. I edited my original reply to clarify.
Do what you normally do to sharp backend balls. I think this ball normally has a fairly sharp and sudden back when used on true medium oil, maybe just short of a skid/flip reaction. With a 2.57 RG and high Differential, this ball has the potential for lots of backend.

OK, saw the edit. Feeling much better. The straighter I can get the ball through the heads around here, the better. But being able to move in and bump the dry is even better.
