Orbit Extreme Solid vs. Orbit Extreme Solid
« on: March 09, 2008, 12:14:57 PM »
Hey everyone, just as the subject says. I already have one Orbit Extreme, and here's a pic:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c288/TheOne9110/100_0972.jpg (it was drilled before I switched to Sarge Easter, but it still has that same layout)

Now, I was wondering, if I move the pin further from my PAP and still keep it above my fingers, (maybe above ring?) will that give me a more skid/snap reaction to compliment my current Orbit? My Orbit's finish right now is a little duller, so it's very smooth and controllable, but i'm thinking of getting a new one to get more length and more overall backend. Any opinions on this? Thanks!

it will be more angular or sharper at the break, skid snap I don't think so. Mine is more roll arc or strong arc. The Pearl would be more likely to be even more angular.

I have to agree with Steve that the pearl will give more angle, not a skid snap. Really try not to put an aggressive layout on these pieces because they burn up A LOT in the front and hit weak in the pocket. Like with all High RG/Low Diff balls - especially given the layout you're trying to go with - they tend have a smoother transition from front to back unlike the Low RG/High Diff balls so try not to use a layout as such.  If you're wanting the reaction closest to what you want try this:

(6 by 5) or (6 by 5 1/2) must have a long pin - 4-5" pin
The pin should be above the fingers and the cg should be really close to the thumb. With the pin up it will give you length and with the cg close to the thumb you should have some thumb weight. Here's the thing, when drilling the thumb deeper to meet required standards you should hit the weight block. When drilling into the weight block, you actually create a higher diff.

If anyone has questions at anytime about this or any other layout, you can pm me or call me at the shop.

WOW! Thanks for all that help, man! In your post, were you referring to me if I got the Orbit Extreme Pearl, or Solid? I was looking to get another Solid, but just let me know

Hmm.. I don't know. I really love my Solid (have shot back to back 669 and 662 with it on two different league days), and would just love to get another Solid.

Would the Pearl compare to the Solid in any way at all? Is it possible to just get another Solid and just drill it for more angle?

If you like the solid, try the drill that I recommended for the pearl.

the Orbit Extreme Pearls will be hard to find, a Creature Pearl would however also be a good fit.

I would love to have an Orbit Extreme Sky/Turquoise blue but no pro shop in Nashville carries AMF or 900 Global.

Bowler's Advantage in Smyrna used to, as recently as 1-2 years ago.
