Lack of Clutch reviews
« on: August 25, 2009, 04:53:03 PM »
Definitely looking at the Clutch after all the hyped up topic postings but wary due to a complete dearth of honest reviews (read honest = no staffers, no AMF tag lines, and no "you gotta have this ball!!!" comments...

What's up with the lack of constructive reviews?

I think once everybody's leagues start up you will hear more. Just a bad time for review's.

Thanks for the commercial, Absolute... I particularly enjoyed "they could have made more money, but sacrificed it for America"...

I own a clutch and bounty hunter both drilled the same. In all fairness I haven't thrown my clutch very much but seems to be a very nice rolling piece with solid carry.  But I by no way see it as strong as my bounty hunter... but hey I'm an ave guy throwing his .02 in have a good day

get the ball lefty, its that good of a piece.  the last 2 weeks of summer league
i went 780(straight out of box), 680, than 686.  On monday, start of our fall
league, i go 221 the first, front 5 in the second game than stung a 7pin, than
go sheet for 279.  finished up with a 247.

the ball is so predictable with a strong/smooth move.  I havent thrown nothing
else since i drilled this ball.  I usually dont post reviews in the designated
place, I usually just say my piece when someone asks about it.  The Clutch
itself imho, handles the oil well, handles the wet/dry great, no over/under,
just smooth and predictable.  take it for what its worth, cause in bowling, one
thing may work for someone, and not for others.

oh yeah....."you gotta have this ball!!!"

league just started for me last week, dont feel i have put enough games on either my clutch or sideways to make full reviews yet.  Gotta say i love both peices and they do share time with my lunatic as well.

For me the clutch is very versitle in how easy the cover is to tune. OOB it was a very early mid lane roll, with a factory polish on the oob finish it pushed the break point down lane 5-10feet with a more angular snap.  the numbers are close between the lunatic and clutch, the clutch is much stronger!

hope this gives some insite to someone....

Good  comments and feedback... Question bugging me though is this. Max, you and the others are prolly much higher rev than me... Can I low rev guy with high side roll get a 2.56 Rg ball to turn in time? I haven't had luck with that combo before.
Thoughts?

Im a speed dominate player, unfortunately hahaha so like i said earlier oob it checked up way early for me,when most things dont, so I dont see why it wouldnt move in time for you.

oh and for the layout, I put the pin in bridge, no side weight and PSA in my thumb.  My PAP is 3 1/2 x 1/2 up if that helps put things in perspective.

I have to agree with absolute, i too am a staffer and AMF does not get the credit these days like they should. This is absolute got to have it ball, i don't care if your a high rev or low this ball will work and you will love it. Now as far as you asked if the ball will turn the corner for you, i can honestly say it will i have seen guys who throw the ball like you explained you do. Granted low rev players will not see the reaction like a cranker but that is common anyway. Also i have seen to where low rev players see a cranker flipping a ball across the lane, and the low rev player cannot get that same ball to even bend. That is not the case at all with this ball i don't care who you are this ball is going to hook even on the heaviest of oil patters. And honestly if you do drill one up and it don't bend then i would find myself a different pro shop guy. I drill balls for a living and i am 100% sure that i can make this ball work for anyone. Believe the hype you have heard, so far its all true.

Absolute, I think your feedback is spot on this time, and I appreciate it. I had considered the probability that the higher Rg was needed to match with the cover. I think it's worth the chance.
Either way, I'll definitely write a review. If it moves for me, it will move for anyone. If not, then an honest review would be healthy to see. I still think the ball companies would be well served to have average reviewers test the balls and won't change my mind on that point, but this is worth a gamble. Of course, the last time I did this was for another first time ball company for me, the now infamous Lane 1 BuzzBUST... Sadly, I've heard all this before, but we'll try again. I'll even take suggestions for layout. Although I'm pretty happy with my driller, opinions are always welcome.

I drilled mine 4 1/4" pin to pap with a 60° MB, which put the MB 4 1/2"
from pap. X-hole 2" down from pap on VAL. 3" pin buffer

or for you dual angle guys.....60° x 4 1/4" x 55°

lefty, I use to be a high rev guy, but I have been working with a coach this
summer, and now im a bit more mellow probrably around 250-275.  was around 375+.
I use to play 4/5th arrow ALOT, but I wanted to take my game to the next level
and conforming to better, more consistent relaxed swing and being solid at the
line has cut my revs down a WHOLE bunch.  Im now right around 13 at the arrows,
with a breakpoint around 7.  I still track high...PAP 5 3/4" x 1" up.  my ball
speed has gone up from low 15mph to high 16.

tonight was the first off night I had.  it wasnt the ball, it was me not staying
down and soft at the release.  shot 580 with a 240 last game going front 6 that
game.  But the Clutch is, like I said, the MOST versatile/consistent ball i have
thrown.  And I've thrown a bunch of pieces.
