I know this is an old ball, but I had to post on it, to thank Jim Lewis and his boys at Carmen Don's Sports Plus for drilling it exactly as I asked.
Ball Wgt: 14# and 13oz.
Pin: 5"
Topwght: 2oz.
Fingers: 5/8oz.
Drilling: 135 degree. Pin 1"over the ring finger, CG is 2.5" left of the grip centerline in the negative quad. Balance hole is 6.75" left of pin, just outside my track flares. Got this idea, partly from a Ball Reviews poster and Denny Torgerson of Bowling This Month. Works exactly as promised.
This ball is an old classic. Great core. Very strong. Problem was, that the core was sooo strong, that in the label leverage layout I used to have it in, it would ping ten-pins all nite long, especially if the backends were clean and dry. I could only use it on long, medium oil which made the ball condition specific. Being a pearl, it had length already built in, but I really had to throw it with pace to keep away from the ten-pins. Gave it this drilling , (which by the way almost looks like a lefthanders' drilling)and it really tamed this baby down. Ball still has length, but rolls with a nice gentle arc and then very late, skid/flips in the hole. I now have a piece I can pull out almost anytime, just to give me a different look getting to the hole, especially if I'm trying to avoid some carrydown. Core is still dynamic as heck. The ball really shines on lite hits. Have used it on synthetics with great results. That whole Whip line of balls were great balls. The Whip Lash I still use on wood lanes with great results. I have a Whip,16#, whose core is similar to the core of the Vortex series of balls. (of course different wgt densities, etc,)
But anyway, thanks go out to Jim and his boys for doing a great job. I've got another regular use weapon now. Peace.
