Any Nighthawk Revenge Owners?
« on: September 20, 2003, 10:38:44 PM »
I am going to drill one soon.  I believe it has a 3 inch pin.  My speed is about 17-17.5 mph with about a 380 rpm rate.  I still have no idea how I want to drill this.  I want it to be smoother and not as continuous on the backend as my Purple Predator which is currently my most aggressive ball.  The Predator is drilled 4 x 2 1/2, but I want it to be more aggressive than my Silver Streak Solid and Ti Hawk.  I was thinking about going 3 x 0 or 2 x 2 on this to get it to more or less hook and roll.  Or I was even thinking about drilling it stacked leverage with a big weighthole to maybe take it back to 1/4oz negative weight.

Has anyone tried it with the above forementioned drillings?  How are yours drilled and how does it react for you?

The Revenge, of all the balls I have owned (maybe 75 of them) has been THE biggest source of grief and the most confusing love/hate relationship (if you can have that with a bowling ball) that I have ever had. I know it's a great ball and I have played with 3 of them, 2 of them brand new which I paid for, one of them 16 lbs. I have drilled it label, stacked leverage, pin above the bridge, pin  above the bridge. I have altered the surface 16 ways from sunday, as the saying goes. I've done everything except throw the damn thing down the lane overhand and, Boy, have I been tempted to do that. All this over a 3-4 year period.

I finally polished it to about 1500 grit, put the pin under the bridge and drilled it 5x4, for around a 60 degree, 10:30 drilling. I now get a medium to medium large hook on medium-light to barely medium oil pattern, without carrydown. It hits nicely now.

My speed is about 16 mph, and my rev-rate slightly less than yours in 300-350 range, depending on circumstances.

Don't forget: it comes 1000 grit dull with medium-high RG of around 2.58, and medium-high flare potential of around 6". This is one ball where, as you can see, I don't care make any recommendations.

I have no idea what a "purple Predator" is, so I have no basis for comparison. I've seen red Predators (the original and the Sparkle), green Predators (Jungle Green) & red+blue Predators (Pursuit), but never a Purple one.

The Purple Predator is the same ball as the Jungle green with a slightly lower RG.  It was a limited run by Ebonite for a Pro Am and two different versions got leaked out of the plant.  One with the pro am logo on the side, and one with the same logos from the Jungle Green.  There's only about 400-500 of them
