HELP!!
« on: February 01, 2004, 04:52:01 AM »
Hello All,

I use a Raven R, old ball, but it does me well, except I always seem to leave the 7 or 11. I throw a straight ball with almost deadly precision on the spares. I have a slight hook at the end the ball does naturally which I have trying to use to my advantage. Basically I am an amatuer with a 165 average. I need a new ball, any suggestions for a good ball with lots of pin action for the rare breed of straight throwers??

from what i heard amd from my experience, if ur looking for a good hit ball ebonite
the company u should be looking at.. one of my teamates just bought a killer instinct sanded. and he throws pretty straight with a lil hook in the backend .and lemme tell u it hit real hard. he throes fast though.so if ur not a power bowler u might wanna look at a different ball  cause the killer instinct hooks alot .
but i think ebonite is the way to go for a big hit

Unlike my counterpart above. I would recommend a lower end ball like the Scamp or Victory/R if looking in the AMF line. They will go pretty long and finish nicely. The scamp would probably be a great ball as you like to throw of the straighter variety. I would actually recommend a lesson or two from a certified instructor as being more beneficial than a new ball. Good luck with all your bowling.LHT

VICTORY/R!!!!!

that ball is bomb... ive drilled 3 for myself... all with different layouts...
i can get the ball to circle the lane... or stop... and it hits like a tank!!!!
i live in washington... and whenever i make a trip to a tourney in oregon those are basically the only 3 i bring with!!!
you'll like it...

2 strikes & the rest spares is a 200 game.... Deadly precision?

Basically what I'm trying to get at here is that you probably don't need another ball.

Also, everything thats been suggested to you above could be completely wrong. You simply haven't provided enough info for anyone to give an accurate suggestion.

We need to know relatively how much oil there is on the lane, how fast you throw, and if there is any side turn to the ball, how much & how many revs.

Without that info I could reccommend anything from a plastic spare ball to the strongest particle & it might or might not work.

If he only carries a 165 there's no sense in spending 200+ dollars on a reaction he's not going to get.  Spend 100 bucks and get a Scamp, Courage, Scout, Tornado etc until that average gets up and you learn how to release the ball properly.  Then you can start spending the big time money on a certain reaction(not just a new ball).

your definitions of the victory/R... me and my colleagues can make that ball do anything.... a simple layout adjustment and the ball is full of rollout at 35 ft... or we can make it a kick left at 40 ft... good things happen with an education and ties with ball companies

hmmm.... you say that he ONLY avg's a 165... if he gets a victory/R.... if layed out right and the pro shop guy has a clue as to what the hell he is doing... and help him get into a better positiong to throw a half decent shot... im outtie!!!!!
