I have had this ball since November, and i am not 100%v satisfied with it. It is lane specific. i have had 279 with it twice, but the reaction is not predictable. i average 210 and 200 in the leagues I compete in. i have not given up on it, but I like the older azo better

The ball is true to its name.  It creates area on the back end of the lane.  I was able to keep moving deeper and still get the ball back on a pair of lanes that streaked due to people playing multiple angles.  This ball allows you to get in and go around the mess created by others.  It hits well, no week 10's.  If I got to deep it still reacted well and was able to recover.

As compared to the Strike the Area for me is more angular, you didn't have to hit it hard to bring it back as the pattern was breaking down, this will be a great ball as the oil carries down the lane and you need back end reaction.

I tried this ball strictly on the recommendation of Tony Maresca.  The only real test I have given it was on old anvilane that had open play all day.  Carrydown is always an issue in this house because the heads go quick and the oil is long.  I was able to play about 18 out to 12 with nice recovery and very decent carry.  My only comparable ball that day was my Wild Thing which had been very good for me.  The Wild Thing got no recovery from the deeper angle, but hooked early in the burned heads if I moved back right.

Updated review.  Have used the Area on a couple of conditions including USBC pattern in a 5 game sweeper tournament.  Area gave me a better carry angle than my Virtual Energy playing 6-8 board.  Area also worked well on a typical house shot after my Invasion started burning off energy too early and lost carry.   I have had a hard time describing the look of the Area on the lane, but I think strong arc with great continuation is best.  In some ways it reminds me of my old Virtual Gravity when it had a bit of polish and a fresh shell.  Definitely a ball that I can play multiple angles on tournament patterns.

One more updated review on the Area:  This ball gave me the best look of almost anyone on the old HPL at Sams Town in the Senior High Roller.  It was tougher than normal to move in this spring as the shot broke down, but the Area gave me great recovery and hit.  I also have had very good luck with it on the 50 foot Tournament of Champions pattern in a summer league.  I can go very direct inside 10 board and get more hit with it than any other ball in my arsenal on the long light oil.

Likes:  Extremely strong back end makes it great when I get deep.  This ball made me a lot of money in the Senior High Roller.    Not as strong as my Anarchy, but this one really charges off the dry without burning


Dislikes:  Not as versatile with hand postion adjustments as some balls
