I picked up an Outbreak Solid, shortly after Thanksgiving. Was looking for something a little stronger than my 900 G Chemical X, both overall and downlane.
Ball was:
14lb with a 2.5" pin, and 2.8oz top.
I'm rt handed, 16.5 mph at the pins, and 350 rpms. PAP is 5 3/8 over and 3/8 up.
I layed the ball out with a 65 X 5.25 X 45, which puts the pin above my ring, and CG below and just right. We were able to drill the ring finger a little deeper and not require a weight hole (for statics anyways).
When I saw the ball out of the box, I didn't think there was a chance that I would be able to throw it on my league shot. This thing looked dull! During an initial practice session with the ball, I threw it in box condition. For being as dull as it was, the ball got surprisingly good length. Even more impressive was the backend. This was the first time in a while that I felt like I had extra recovery from wider than normal shots. I found a nice line crossing 18 at the arrows and sending it out to the 10 board range marker down lane. I probably could have used somewhat less surface on this shot as any slight pulls, would jump high and I left a few 9 pins...and even a 4-9 on one shot. The ball turned the corner and really drove through the pins nicely.
Since this was a lot more surface and a little more ball reaction than I wanted, I decided to hit the surface with a blue Trizact pad (~1500 grit) and Powerhouse Factory Finish polish. The ball took surface changes easily.
With the new surface, I am now able to play quite a bit further right one the lane. On a fresh shot, I am able to play 12 out to 5 and get a strong roll on the backend. This was the interesting part. Changing the surface and polishing didn't seem to increase backend all that much (this is a good thing). It just seemed to reduced the overall amount of hook, allowing me to square up more. Although the ball has a strong backend, it doesn't seem to overreact on shots a little wide that hit the dry earlier... It just seems to roll up strong. The hit and drive through the pins is top notch.
I bowled on a pair with three others, all throwing new Tour IQ's 30ths. They were all asking what I was throwing because it was hitting so well and didn't over react.
I've thrown two sets with it since polishing...658 and 730. Both solid sets for my 205 league average.
