Actually, there were three fantasy X bowling balls - all made by AZO before it became Lanemasters/Legends.  All were top of the line bowling balls constructed without filler - just weight block and cover.  One was a yellow/orange light load particle ball that was skid/flip to say the least. Another was a heavy load dark red orange ball, that for me, simply didn't work.  The third was the Gem!  A solid black medium load particle ball that seemingly lasts forever.  I still use mine.  The ball gets good length, stores energy and epitomizes the "crack" when hitting the pins that AZO was so famous for.  Pin carry was, and still is, extraordinary.  When I purchased this ball, perhaps more than a decade ago, it came in an AZO box that included the popular Lanemasters packing - Lanemasters ball sling, Lanemasters polish, Lanemasters ball cleaner and pads all of which verified the then connection between the Lanemasters and AZO product line.

I can vouch for the Crack sound and the carry power, I have a Ultima RP with about 20 games on it and it sounds so much diffferent and hits so much different than the modern stuff in my bag. It just carries all day long and his consistent about it also.

I had the dark orange/reddish Fantaxy X ball. I could never find a condition that it reacted consistently on. I gave it to a friend.

I still own the black Fantasy X particle ball which is an absolute gem! It is the first ball out of my bag, when I go to any tournaments, because it is so versatile. It is both a benchmark ball, and super-consistent in reaction. This ball has won me a ton of money, at out-of town tournies.

And yes it does have that familiar "craaaaack" sound.
