SST 8's vs Tour Ultras
« on: July 20, 2008, 11:20:54 AM »
I saw the topic on this already but it had very few replies.

I have Tour Ultras now, they have been through hell and back and are still in decent shape but they are getting a tad small and its time for new shoes.

I'm in a difficult situation as I'm dealing with knee issues and really think eventhough I love my Tour Ultras that I should get the SST 8's so I have an option to convert and not have to buy new shoes, this is an outside deal but it leaves the door open.

So how are the 8's, and has anyone gone Dynorooz/ABS/3G to Dexters or vise-versa and have comments and suggestions to add?

Thanks,
Mike

They are both quality shoes.  What I like about the Dynarooz is that they are much lighter and for someone like me that wears a 14 this makes a big difference.

The Dynorooz were advertised as growing with you.  They didn't?

I just bought a new pair of shoes yesterday.  I looked at both brands very
carefully.  The older pairs of Tour ultras seemed very light and soft to
me and I really was leaning toward them.  I tried them on and they were
very lightweight but seemed very stiff.  I think that they would have broken
in to be very soft but I didn't want to pay the price on speculation.  I
tried the SST8s and they were soft inside and despite my doubts about the
shoes being reversible, they worked out very nicely.  I bought the 8s, wore
them today and am satisfied.

I tried the 8's and there is no comparison to the Tour Ultra's.  The 8's felt like I was walking around with concrete blocks on my feet.  Very heavy shoes compared to the Tour Ultra's.  2nd issue for me was the right shoe with the velcro traction sole. I've always had issues wearing my right shoe out due to the way I drag my foot.  But, after 15-20 games, I had already peeled the traction sole off.  I've sent them back to the distributor and am waiting for a new pair of Tour Ultra's in return.  I think the sole/heel combinations are better with the Tour Ultra's as well.  Hope this helps.

I went ABS to Dexter SST8 and I realy like my dexters better for the slide sole and they seem to be wider and give me more balance.

Coming back to the topic, after wearing the 8's I really like the wider platform and I had no issues adjusting to the slide set up with the soles and heels. I did pick them up and I have used them for 9 or so games and am pleased with my decision so far.

Not a huge deal but they do have Dry-z (I think that iss right) built in to the shoes linings to essentially defeat stench. And for me that was a nice surprise to see when I got them as it does give you the shoe ball smell and they still smell like new shoes so far.

I wore my SST8s for the first time today. Like Magicmike, the platform is wide, giving me stability, and the toe cap drags smoothly for my non-slide foot.
