3G Tour Ultras Slide Question
« on: June 18, 2012, 11:00:19 PM »
I currently use the gray felt sole and red/rust leather heel on my 3G Tour Ultras but find that I need a little more slide. Would the 'hard heel' option provide more slide than the red leather heel or is there a better option to get a little more slide length?

The red leather heel provides the most slide from any 3G heel. If you're still looking for more slide than the #10 felt sole try the orange cleat sole with the teflon discs.

Thanks for the reply Don. I tried the orange cleat sole and teflon discs a couple of years ago. What I found was the cleat leather and the teflon discs were the same depth when attached to the shoe sole. The result for me was less slide than the gray felt solid sole because I was partially sliding on the orange leather. What I have decided to try later this week is just attach the teflon cleats without the cleat sole or I may take a used gray felt sole I have and attempt to cut out holes for the teflon cleats to fit into. I just recently developed arthritis in my left knee so any abrupt stops in my slide are something I would like to avoid...thanks again as your reply has given me reason to experiment a little with this....Hopefully I won't slide all the way into the pit!

Rodan, trying to use just the teflon cleats without the holed sole may cause damage to the hook part of the velcro and then you would have problems keeping the soles attached securely in the future.

I use teflon cleats that I make myself.  They are just a bit thicker than the ones that come with the shoes so they may work better for you.  I will PM you and you can then send me your mailing address and I will send you some to try.

You could try to find a shoe repair shop and have them attach some of the leather soles to some of the rubber heels that you don't use.

I tried various combinations on the sole to get the best consistent slide possible and I found the number 4 sole worked best for me. I have a pair of black and a pair of silver/white 3G Tour Ultra's so I can switch off to extend the life of the shoes. I wore my first pair of what were then ABS Tour Ultra's for over 12 years and they finally wore out on the inside. The outside of the shoes were still in good shape. IMO the 3G Tour Ultra's are the best bowling shoes on the market today.
